Imagine winning all that money living in Japan and not being able to travel freely to enjoy it, unless, that is, you want to face the requirement of having to test for Covid before boarding the flight back to Japan. but I'm sure I could find something to do with it.

Holy crap! I was stationed with the U.S. military at nearby Bitburg Air Base (about a 30 minute drive from Trier) and have been to Trier countless times including many times on vacation after relocating to Japan. I was just there as recently as 2018. My condolences to those hurt and those that were killed. Wow! Shocking to say the least!

And to think how safe Japan used to be. Very, very sad! I just wonder if someone had an issue with him or if it was just random. Still, lost life and a sad dog too.

Just saw on the news today of Americans (service members and their families) doing such a nice thing for the caves that were vandalized. It was such a nice display of good Americans which they clearly are. But then this happens. Just as things were getting better. As I mentioned in an earlier post, my condolences to this man who was just getting ready to enjoy retired life. Condolences to his family as well. Sad.

First off, condolences to the loss of life and his family and other loved ones. This is really not good. The doo doo is really going to hit the fan. This will be all over local news and even national news. I see lots of restrictions back into effect and more protests. Another sad day in Okinawa.

Sad to have to read all of this. However, he will be far better off in a Japanese prison versus an American prison. It will be very interesting to see what he gets. Sadly, everyone loses today.

And please remove your American bases, racists and those kind of hate peddaling faces from Japan.

Real Americans, of course, are more than welcome

Okay, thank you for liking "Real Americans" but the other comment you said was very cruel and not deserving. Our military forces are stationed throughout the world not on their own wishes but the wishes of people in very high places. Our American military personnel are very much "Real Americans". I am a former service member of the U.S. Armed Forces (happily retired in Japan) and am now a civilian so I guess I'm a "Real American" too.

Please keep comments nice. Thank you and you're welcome.

Sorry but I feel Windows should be put to rest all together. Nothing but a giant magnet for viruses and so forth. I'm a proud Apple user and have had no problems in the past 2 years.

This is way sad. So sad to have this happen right after school started. This will require a thorough investigation. I do know truck drivers are among the worst and most dangerous drivers around but this may sound like the driver of this truck may have not done anything wrong. Wow...sad.

English Teacher on Okinawa (Retired from the U.S. military): I was on board an airplane flying from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa to Atsugi Naval Air Facility (Kanagawa Prefecture). I was hopping on military flights all the way from Japan to Germany but never made it past Atsugi NAF. The quake occurred about 15 minutes after take-off from Okinawa and no one knew what had happened when we arrived.

After arrival, I started to walk to Sagamino Station only to find out all the trains had stopped and would not go anywhere. I was frantically trying to take a train to Fussa Station (near Yokota Air Base) to continue my trip to Germany. I wound up taking a train one stop from Sagamino and wound up returning to Atsugi. I spent one night on the base.

The following day I decided it would be best to return to Okinawa. I was lucky and was able to catch a flight from Atsugi to Okinawa but the plane was being routed to Misawa Air Base (Aomori Prefecture) and then on to Iwakuni Marine Corps Air Station (Yamaguchi Prefecture) and then finally on to Okinawa. The flight time lasted 10 hours but was quite accommodating. It was a free ride for me. We flew in a propeller type plane so the altitude was low enough where we could see the flooded/tsunami zone of Sendai and could even see Sendai airport under water. I also could see the oil refinery fire as well. It was so sad to see this devastation. Arrived Okinawa around 10pm and spend the rest of my "Haru Yasumi" watching TV as events unfolded.

WW3 started on November 4th, 1979 when Iranian militants seized the U.S. Embassy and held more than 50 hostages for 444 days. From that time, U.S. involvement in the middle east started and it's been spiraling downward ever since.

All of this is really sad. I feel the Marine Corps is letting him down. Prosecuting him for attempted suicide? Give the man the help he needs (but still prosecute him for the other crime he committed) and let him do whatever time he has to, then set him free.
