Posted in: S Korea in shock, grief after 153 die in Halloween crowd surge See in context

I remember going to Shibuya for New Years countdown 2018. They stupidly closed off the crossing and pushed all the crowds up towards the women's 109 building. Absolutely crazy packed with people. At one point the crowd swelled, people were complaining, some couldn't breath. Some people had even brought young toddlers with them. I'm a tall guy, healthy and strong but even I was feeling difficult to breath due to the pressure of people against me. Fortunately the police opened up a back alleyway that people could flow through. But that could have been a disaster. Sometimes crowd control such as closing off areas can make an even bigger problem.

Posted in: Half of foreigners in Tokyo have experienced discrimination: survey See in context

Yubaru

Recently I get the impression that many foreigners who come to Japan now a days are a hell of a lot more sensitive, thin-skinned, and extremely touchy about the littlest crap, and scream "Im being discriminated against!"

Telling victims of racism and discrimination to be less sensitive and grow a thicker skin screams ignorance about this problem. How about instead everyone else move with the times and be less discriminatory to people of different backgrounds and nationalities?

The good old days of what you deem acceptable discrimination, are over.

The store employee heard a scream but didn't do anything about it.

People, if you hear someone scream, check it out. Things like this might be avoided then. Don't wait for the police to come by later asking you when you heard the scream.

Posted in: 'Joshi' or 'josei' - At what age does a 'girl' become a 'woman?' See in context

When it comes to Japan I never felt age was a factor in determining this. There are women in their 40s who still act like women in their 20s. The opposite is true also.

The point here is what they admitted to. It's probably be more of a case of girls wanting to pretend they are still pure.

How low can you go? Nice advertisement here by Japan today.

And what does this last line mean?

"And wait: “aged 18 and above”…? Does that mean Moe Date lets you “date” underage girls as well? "

That's sick.

I guess you don't know the difference between a cheap pen / pencil and an expensive one. I've been using a 20,000 yen pen for over 3 years. I wouldn't consider using another. That's good for you. But most people wouldn't consider spending 20,000 yen for a pen. Even if it is fancy and still works 3 years later.

Yuuda had made a written statement to police promising that he would no longer become violent. Yeah as if that would stop him. Who the hell believes the word of a man who hits women?

This woman did. The incidence of violent crime against women is, however, far lower than in most other nations. Reported far less you mean.

I take up two seats so I don't have to sit to the drunk guy or girl who is in a state between passing out and wakefulness. Usually waking just as their head hits my shoulder or worse and then passing out the moment they sit up straight to continue the cycle.

Ok I know people work hard and are tired but jezuz, as soon as they sit down and open a book they're gone to sleep land.

Posted in: Police widen search for Hiraoka’s killer as grisly details emerge See in context

To cut up a body and play around with it you need time and a place of privacy to do it. So I think they are a single person. They'll probably do it again. I think it's less likely that there's two sickos working together. I think it's a man as they'd had to be physically strong, they killed by blows to the head I believe, also they had to throw body parts possibly from a car or van meaning they had some physical strength beyond that of a Japanese woman and if it's a stalker I find it less likely that a woman would stalk another woman. They clearly enjoy what they did, they dumped the body where it could be found, no panic to hide or cover it up, they'll try it again.

Posted in: Police widen search for Hiraoka’s killer as grisly details emerge See in context

This is sounding a lot like the American TV show "Dexter". In the first season a killer cuts up body parts of people and leaves them scattered, usually the head is not with the other body parts. What's worse is that in this series the killer cuts the flesh off the thigh bone. The killer is experimenting.

It's absolutly sick but this seems to bear more than a passing resmeblance.

Well it's a sensitive issue. But the fact that they can apologise on behalf of those who died and admit to that shady past is a lot better than letting it pass under the carpet. The victims who are still alive deserve that much. They'd rather have that than the money. Nobody is asking for a personal apology or paycheck.

This is what they call real relationships in Japan.
