@ theResident

Nice advice, not the greatest test, the Lateral Flow, but my result from it matched my PCR.

And...they ve been plenty of people down there on Dogenzaka in Shibuya spitting in a cup for a few years now...

Well, I tried to be positive the last few days - for sake of balance - being basically a worried poster - but this is UNDENIABLY BAD NEWS

1 The ratio of positive tests.

2 The fact that this is weekend testing data, when numbers are lower (fewer tests).

3 The PAUCITY of testing (this is different from above points). There is a new strain (actually, regardless of that), this figure - by global standards - is astoundingly pathetic.

Nationwide figures comment.

A few times Osaka(fu-) had higher cases than Tokyo(to-) (and that caught out the Japantoday reporting template a few times, sorry guys!) but never can I recollect Kanagawa-ken getting figures near those of Tokyo-to...anybody?

Another Premier League draw for Lpl!

17 out of 26 domestic cup draws for Liverpool under Klopp have produced such a draw. Cripes, Zichi...are we cursed?!

@Speed - and anybody

Yes, jump, IF YOU CAN! I entered a house fire on my way home one night in Fuchu, Tokyo way back.

Above a linen shop.

my clothes melted on my body climbing the stairwell and I went back

climbed upto the kitchen first/second floor balcony with a purloined laddrer when the gas blew the kitchen windows out,

leapt, fell to the parking lot - no major new injuries beyond those initial burns and smoke inhalation...

Aye, that peak (dependent on number of tests conducted, after all) would not likely be reflected until JT's figures published Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. If we get higher figures before then (in light of the three-day lag), we are in the poop and I will be in with the doom-mongers rather than my usual balanced self!

Before commenting, we surely have to remember;

This decrease - though welcome - is from weekend testing JT will surely post the number of tests later, so we can gauge better either progress, or lack thereof

@AG

Read carefully! Today's JT numbers are for testing FRIDAY January 8.

The encouraging thing is down over the last few days which shows a decline over last week's weekday test results...

Hence the rest of my comment.

For as long as I can remember, this website uses testing figures from three days' previously.

Surely all posters know this, or at least READ the article?

Today is a Public Holiday, so numbers lower this coming Thursday on JT?

Again, slightly encouraging.

BUT, next three days' figures will be skewed by being measure over the three day weekend.

AND, I did not like the youngsters' celebrating the coming-of-age day holiday in close groups speaking loudly...augurs badly.

That is SLIGHTLY encouraging, given the weekday testing. Veteran readers would expect numbers down this coming Tuesday and Wednesday - reflecting weekend testing, no?

The U.K, with the other major European powers, has supported the nuclear pact made with Iran - the one repudiated by the U.S. This news will not help the British - or French - try to help Iran further. Bad mood music.

Good move overall, the next step is the one which entrants from several countries already have to follow now (originally U.K and S. Af but now expanding to several countries); neg PCR (must be this type) within 72 hours of take-off, another on arrival in Japan and another on the 3rd day following 3 days in a government-approved place (initially Toyoko Inn Narita), then 11 more days strictly stuck at home having downloaded an app.

Journey from government-approved place/airport to home NOT by public transport or taxi, Keisei do a segregated train car on the Skyliner plus approved limo from Ueno to a 23-ku address for 20000yen - although as posted when I took it the train the car was designated but not at all segregated....

But could Japan handle those measures for ALL entrants?

LIVE Complacency Update

Even after 3 negative COVID tests in one week and after 3 days quarantine (one test in UK and 2 in Narita), I am not allowed to take public transport or taxis for 11 days more

I am RIGHT NOW on the designated restricted Car 8 of the Sky Liner “(Keisei Smart Access Premium Ticket”) which is Isolated apparently.

then I take a dedicated car to home (all in 20000yen)

Just walked through the entire train unhindered! I thought car 8 was locked off....

Money seems more important than public safety - it’s all lip service

there’s a process, and some errors made as I reported second post on Monday. But some posters will downvote anybody who has left the country and come back. Empathy for those who have suffered but who post is not to be expected on the forum, sometimes..

The driving standards on Kannana, Kanpachi avenues as well as Awashima-dori in Setagaya are terrible. If you put police and cameras on them you could make enough in fines to pay off the national debt pretty quick.

yes, and with restrictions coming through on a state (U.S) basis or province (Canada) basis (according to the information Immigration gave me), staff will be confused.

Also the pre-flight COVID- free “certificate” can be relatively easily faked

New cases will come from abroad from my experience. At Narita airport Sunday I was mistakenly asked which hotel I had reserved (from a list). I had to INSIST I was to be taken to the isolation hotel (Toyoko Inn) as coming from the U.K. I could easily have flounced out of the airport- albeit with an (initial) negative COVID result.

People from the UK have NOT been banned since Dec 24

PCR test 72 hours before flying as before.

test on arrival, two weeks quarantine (home ok)

This applies to non-Brits flying in, too, not discriminatory

New thing is have to download the Japanese tracing app.

@zichi - Yes, there are. Some of us have to go back for a tiny "visit" not because we want to see Liverpool play WBA on a screen nearer Anfield but because elderly family members get sick. You DO appreciate that as people get older, they get sick, right - if only from personal experience? Us hometown got the 'rona pretty bad.
