"Unsurprising given the number of Japanese people who don’t wear masks or wear them around their necks. As a proportion of the population, non-Japanese are far more vigilant about masks than Japanese."

You've said this a few times before but it's not true. Do you actually live in japan?

It is an unusual story for sure but if that's what it takes and they work that's great.

"If a country does not want to have it's soldier's die on foreign soil, and have their remains be lost for an eternity, better to not start one in the first place!

The families of these dead will never have closure and there is little if anything that can be done about it"

Hope you don't live in Japan! If you do please never say that to Japanese people.

Exactly right. All those daft company meetings we have which go on for ever and achieve nothing!

@Jonathan Prin

I would imagine most retirees in Japan are very glad they DIDN’T buy property during a certain period! Why would they want huge debts and a property worth 30% of the value they bought it for between 1988 - 2000 - if indeed it’s still standing!

That wouldn’t be very wise would it?

There's many pros and cons for having casinos. It will provide a huge boost to the economy, ( not least from Chinese tourists ) but will also contribute to gambling addiction and other problems. The question is whether people should be given this choice or be protected from the above mentioned by the government. Also the operators of the proposed casinos need to be given due consideration.

Economically it makes sense if demand is 60% down. JAL is a business. They don't even operate direct flights to Spain. But it's very sad that the Japanese are so naive. It's giving into terror and exactly what the terrorists want. Will they stop visiting America given the fact that terror is so common there, and 95% non Islamic related?

What a stupid article. The writer obviously didn't watch Japan v England. Japan should have won (btw, I am an England supporter) Japan are more than capable of qualifying to the second round, and were unlucky not to do so in Germany 2006. They should have beaten Australia and Croatia. They have got some good players and their playmaker (Shunsuke Nakamura) will be an excellent asset to have on the bench.

Moderator: The commentary was written before the Japan-England game.
