@tiger What? I'd like to find out if anyone under retirement age has ever missed two weeks of work with the flu in Japan. Going on 25 years here and one week is the longest I've heard of. Over the years I've missed a number of days here and there due to illness and never needed a medical certificate of any kind.

I think anyone that can make millions of dollars playing tennis is pretty great. Tennis is one of the toughest most competitive sports in the world. If you are not one of the 100 best players on the planet you are struggling to get by financially. Compare that to say soccer where the 100th best player in the world is most certainly a millionaire. Roughly 2000 players in the world are attempting to make a living as a tennis pro on the ATP tour. Nishikori is 5th. Pretty damn great.

It will be interesting to see how Osaka matures next year. She had some tough losses this year and hopefully she will learn from those. It will have to be quite and effort to get me to watch WTA tennis however.

It would be nice just to see Nishikori win a 1000 level event. If he doesn't it will be due to another second or third round injury forcing him to retire. That and the fact that he is at least 5 inches too short.

Posted in: Murray edges Raonic; Djokovic thrashes Nishikori to reach ATP final See in context

Nishikori was not worth getting up to watch. Kept one serve the entire match. Not sure why Djokovic has to be tired. Murray should go into the next match knowing he can take a long long deserved vacation and leave it all out there. Go Murray!

Posted in: ATP semifinals: Murray vs Raonic; Djokovic vs Nishikori See in context

Excellent! I think Nishi knew that he could advance by winning a set against Cilic and decided to conserve his energy. Not always the best way to go mentally but I think he'll give Djokovic a good match. The courts are on the slow side with high bounces that probably favor a taller player but hopefully Nishi can frustrate Djokovic and take care of his serve. If a genki Nishikori shows up I give him a good chance.

Since Comey was appointed by Obama so maybe she should blame him. If Comey sat on the information about the discovery of new Clinton emails until after the election he would have been brutally hammered for that as well. I doubt Comey does anything without checking with his boss first.

Posted in: Nishikori faces daunting Tour Finals group See in context

I think if you gave Nishikori the choice he would rather be in the Djokovic group. His chances of advancing to the final four with Theim and Monfrils is better. There is always the possibility that a player will get injured and have to drop out. The first alternate is Goffin and the second is Roberto Bautista Agut.

There is a huge difference between taking a drug on the banned list, and having a drug you have been taking become banned. Reasonable people and organizations know this. The drug she was using had been placed on the banned list less than 30 days before she tested positive. She wasn't using a banned drug for 10 years. The suspension was unfair and WADA got it wrong. Glad she is back and hope she gets all her endorsements.

Posted in: Now No. 1, Murray goes to London vying for Djokovic's title See in context

It's the other way around. Murry has to contend with Wawinka, Nishi, and Cilic. Djokovic has the much easier group. Both Raonic and Thiem have been hurt and Monfilis has never beaten Djokovic. Murray still has a chance but really got unlucky with the draw.

I think Just a User is the only one that understands this article. Japan is not saying it didn't happen. Japan just doesn't want UNESCO to accept China's version without checking all the historical opinions first. UNESCO should explain why they take China's version. Those Chinese papers could have come from the same place they dug up the 9-dash line map.

The McEnroe comparison is off base. McEnroe never tanked. Macs only problem was with incompetent linesmen and umpires making poor calls before Hawkeye was available. Mac would not have the rep he has if Hawkeye was in use when he played. Hawkeye stats now tell us that roughly 30% of calls are overturned. That means Mac had to put up with almost 1/3 of calls being wrong. With only a few or even one bad call costing the match he had a right to get pissed and go a little off.

@Burke

The police bully and strong arm suspects in custody with the single goal of getting a signed confession. Not only will they not record or tape these interrogations, they will not allow the presence of a lawyer for fear they will talk the suspects out of signing a confession. The longer the interrogations go the louder they get. With success 99.9 percent of the time they know they can wear them down. It's the "catch all" Japanese justice system. Catch all those guilty and innocent.

Posted in: 'Japan: Guilty Until Proven Innocent' documentary shines light on controversial legal system See in context

The "Japan Legal System" is very close to the same system they use in China. 23 days of interrogation prior to being charged with anything. During these interrogations they tag team prosecutors day and night until the captor breaks and will sign anything to end the torture. If that isn't bad enough, at the end of 23 days they will charge them with a slightly different crime and it starts all over again. You just have to hope you are not in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The first three digits of the barcode number on the package should tell you where it is made. For China it will start with the numbers 690~695. Made in Japan should start with 49. A manager at a pet shop told me that when I wanted to make sure I was not buying anything made in China.

Very unfortunate as he was ready to go up 4-0 when it happened. It's getting harder and harder to keep track of all Nishikori's injuries. The truth is Nishikori has never been in great peak condition. His goal now is to scrape enough points together so qualify for the Tour Finals.
