As a woman, getting compliments from men about my clothes or hairstyle is okay. But somehow if the guy says, "that's the style I like," it sounds creepy!

Posted in: Women in Tokyo strongly back single-sex transport amid security fears: global poll See in context
As a woman, I tend to avoid women-only carriages during peak hours because they are usually more crowded with just one carriage out of around 10 being women-only and a lot of women wanting to use them. It's usually further from the stairs and escalators, too. On normal carriages, I can usually get a seat halfway through the train ride.

Woke up to a message that my international flight today out of Narita to Europe was cancelled and that they rescheduled my flight to tomorrow morning instead. (Apparently all other flights are full today.) So annoying because all other international flights to Europe weren't cancelled, and the typhoon isn't hitting hard until later based on the news reports. Hoping that it doesn't get cancelled again tomorrow.

Posted in: What's your theory on why some men grope women on trains? Why can't they control the urge? See in context
As someone who has been groped several times, I have some observations. Could be a combination of the following:
1) They're perverts. Plain and simple.
2) They're really drunk so their judgment may be clouded.
3) They're repressed. (I mean, even their porn videos are pixelated.)
4) They think they can get away with it (I guess a lot of women who are groped won't even bother complaining. I for one haven't because my initial reaction is usually to run away/get off the train car as soon as I can) -- they usually target vulnerable-looking girls/women in this sense.
5) They still have that mindset that if someone is wearing sexy clothes, then she's asking for it (happened to me with some South Asian-looking guys)

Posted in: How much power or sexual harassment goes on at your workplace? See in context
Being the youngest woman in our male-dominated office has made me a target for sexual harassment especially when there is alcohol involved. I don’t really mind when they talk about women, make green jokes (I’m immune to that kind of talk), compliment my appearance, or ask about my relationship status, but I feel uncomfortable when it’s too much and particularly directed at me. For instance, a drunken co-worker had offered to take me home. In another case, one of my supervisors grabbed me by the waist and tried to lift me playfully (and he wasn't even drunk). In those cases, I politely yet firmly told them off and they haven’t bugged me since.

Turkish Airlines -The food is great -They provide complimentary hotel accommodations for long layovers -They have kinda fancy amenity kits (like Chopard or Furla) -Their seats are wide -Their cabin attendants look unapproachable though (difficult to get their attention and they rarely smile) but that's alright
Worst: most low-cost carriers (can't really complain though, you get what you pay for)

Posted in: Typhoon death toll climbs into thousands in Philippines See in context
@zaldaus: Actually, the Philippine authorities issued lots of warnings, and more than 800,000 were evacuated before the super typhoon. The thing is, even some evacuation centers could not withstand the Category 5 super typhoon. Haiyan weakened to a Category 1 storm when it reached Vietnam so there is really no comparison.

An old drunk stinky pervert man groped me in the train during evening rush hour in Tokyo but I was disgusted enough to navigate my way through the crowd and move to the next car. And when I saw him following me, I alighted at the next stop and rode a different train. Yes, it's possible to defend yourself. I knew that I couldn't expect anything from my oblivious stone-faced fellow commuters. I do commend this brave young kid for doing what he did. We need more people like him.

I feel so much safer here even if I've experienced being groped a couple of times while walking home. In my country, I wouldn't even dare go out on the streets late at night.

Yes please! At least on weekends. The last time I missed my last train (by just a minute or two), I had to wander around Shibuya and eventually settle somewhere (by myself, gasp!) until the first train. Cab fare to my place costs around 20,000 yen so I didn't really have a choice. I'm sure a lot of people have gone through the same ordeal.

I've never celebrated Valentine's Day in a romantic way, it's more about me hanging out with fellow single girl friends and giving my mom flowers. But even when I was in a relationship, we didn't celebrate it, we kinda just laughed about it saying that it's overrated.

What the... it's illegal to dance in Japan?! I go clubbing at least once a month and dance all night until the first train, so I guess that makes me a criminal. How about making out on the dance floor instead, is that illegal too?

Incorrect usage of "basically", "technically" and "actually". I hear so many people who bombard their sentences with these words even though it's inappropriate. Another one I dislike is "no offense but... insert something totally offensive" Yeah, like I'm supposed to not be offended just because you started with that phrase!
