Floor mat going on top of the gas pedal? It happened in my Land Cruiser a couple times. How else could the floor mat cause an accident? Preventing the brake from going down?

If the bullying doesn't stop....FOR CRYING OUT LOUD stand up for yourself and do something about it
Unfortunately, this is terribly unrealistic.
What's unrealistic about bringing an older cousin, or a baseball bat for that matter, to the playground? If not physically solved, then surely someone at school would have helped if they were properly informed. Every problem has a solution. Unfortunately these kids are not being taught how to solve problems.

That guardrail didn't do what it was supposed to do. There's something very wrong with the design if it's able to protrude like it did. Terrible.

Posted in: Bullying blamed after two 13-yr-old girls jump to their deaths See in context
Parents need to teach their kids how to react to this kind of treatment. Everyone has a hard time at some point but that's no reason to take your own life. Why did these girls decide the solution was suicide? That thought process is the problem... not the bullying. A good old fashioned knuckle sandwich still works like a charm. If the girls couldn't do it themselves then surely they have an older brother, cousin... etc. who could.

a little stereotyping never hurt anyone. what's wrong with having a little fun? it seems many are taking this way too seriously. lighten up!

Mr. James should wear a hat sideways, get a gold grill, sag his pants, walk with a pimp limp, listen to rap music and speak ebonics. Now that would be an appealing campaign for Japan's youth and would raise the bar for us foreigners living in Japan.

Posted in: Is Kabukicho dangerous? Mizoguchi's new book tells all See in context
Kabukicho, like any other city, is only dangerous if you put yourself in the wrong position. Go snooping around the shady shops and start asking questions, taking pictures...etc. and you can bet you'll be approached. Mind your own business and have some common sense and you'll be fine.
Roppongi's foreign drunk/drug crowd, on the other hand, is more dangerous in my opinion.

I really hope you're kidding. The last thing we need is Japanese police officers trying to be tough guys. I saw the Rodney King tape and I'll pass on the minority beatings here in Japan.

This guy might have been a drunk... but he was a drunk with weapon(s). It doesn't matter what his intention was entering the store, the moment he attempts to stab, cut, injure...etc anyone and especially a police officer then he should be dealt with using extreme force. Gun? Maybe not... but a sword would have done the trick.
