@Britt: then donate your blood, even if it's to be used in the US, it will definitely not be wasted. And surely, with the days to come there will be more and more ways to help Japan.

@saintyukio: I wouldn't say it was a plain stupidity. The plane and the officials were almost late for the celebrations of the Katyń massacre and probably they didn't want to be late and hence did land in Smolensk instead of a 400 km-away Minsk or Moscow. The pilot had a great experience – the Russians did warn him but they were not able to stop a government plane from landing.
Has Poland perished? Let me give you an answer, citing the first two verses of our national anthem Mazurek Dąbrowskiego — "Poland has not perished yet/So long as we still live."

@doitsujing, @IvanCoughalot: The author has clearly stated "Imagine standing at your local train station from morning to night". If we assume that "from morning to night" means about 15 hours (e.g. 6:30 AM – 9:30 PM), then the statictics given are almost ideal: (32 753 / 365) / 6 = 14.9557078. In such an imaginary scene, 6 people would take their lives every hour.
