borscht, I think mummy might have been too selfish for that. Do they have 5-storey trailer parks in Fukuoka?

I so hope his parents are rich. All the best for a livable recovery young lady.

Indeed, in this country, so much so that it'll take an effort to mend my ways when I repatriate. Hey, I too thought it was legal here.

My wife's family drive, 5 in a K-car, no one in seat-belts, but none of the concerned 'friends' are brave enough to say anything, except perhaps, いなかもんだから (bloody country bumpkins)when they're not around.

Same deal Sanatan22, My missus gets the weekly return forever, and I get it done in one go. I tell the doc that I'm too busy. Apparently they stretch it out so that you don't have to keep your gob open for extended periods, but of course it's really for the money.

The law states that a driver is under no obligation to stop and allow a pedestrian to cross at a marked pedestrian crossing unless it has traffic lights, so why do they have pedestrian crossings?

J-law is archaic. Have you ever noticed that there are no such things as give way signs, either? Only STOP, somewhere back behind a blind corner.

Posted in: What do you think of American swimmer Michael Phelps' long victory yell after he wins a race? See in context

#

seimei at 11:48 AM JST - 13th August

"If you win an Olympic gold medal you ARE better than everyone else. Yell, scream, dance, do a hand stand, whatever you want, it's you're moment and everyone else can go to hell."

Of course there are no swimmers in the world who have zero interest in competitive swimming, who could outdo a gold medal winner. You heard it on TV. It must be true.

Anyway, pride I can whole-heartedly respect, arrogance I loathe.

Shoutenn (笑点) on Sundays is good, as is Sazae San, Chibimaruko Chan and Atashinchi. They give a great perspective on a range of Japanese family set ups and common situaitons.

Posted in: 2-year-old boy falls to death from 7th floor apartment in Osaka See in context

The maternity hospital (in which there can reasonably be presumed to be many under-supervised kids)I frequent has ridiculous width gaps on the stair handrails, potentially allowing a child to fall 4 floors. Osaka station also has stupid gaps on the "barrier" of the bullet train platforms (a station worker came out to tell me my son was too close, after the train had pulled in)easily wide enough to cause the death of a less than perfectly restrained youngster. The death of a child at either of these places could certainly be well supervised.
