I can't wait till she re-enters politics and helps put the final stake through the cold, grey heart of the republican party.

It's much nicer to use the airport bathrooms anyway.

Kind of shocking they're only now just starting to recycle basic goods.

Throw the book at him - kidnapping and forcible confinement. Crossing international boundaries for the purpose of committing a felony. He should serve hard time, no excuses.

Thanks, that's the funniest thing I've read in ages.

And I was worried that posters on JT were starting to take themselves too seriously...

They didn't "put" them into parliament. They were elected by the voters. Big difference.

bcbrownboy - aside from the cost tips, what in this list wouldn't apply to traveling in Japan? I actually thought this was a decent article, and I generally can't stand "how to..." articles.

One exception - I've stepped in when some gaijin is assaulting / abusing a Japanese woman. Only in cases like that am I not worried about the situation being twisted by the police.

And so your position would be that the man is not a pedophile, since she is a prostitute? Whatever, dude.

Posted in: Man arrested for paying 14-year-old girl for sex See in context

Wrong, plain wrong. In no industrialized country would this 14 year old be able to enter into a binding contract let alone a business proposition without adult consent. The reasons are obvious - mental capacity, experience, etc.

To say that it is prostitution - effectively, a business deal - is impossible.

To say that it is normal sex for an older man to be with a barely-teenage girl is sad, sick, and wrong.

This isn't prostitution, it's pedophilia. Let's make sure we're talking about the right topic.

Guys, the ANA Crowne is not a business hotel and it's a bit silly to compare it to the Toyoko Inn, which is your bread-and-butter standard cut-rate smelly-sheets biz class Japanese hotel.

Having said that, the concept of FREE INTERNET!!! AND BREAKFAST!!! in today's economy is a bit like saying FREE AIR!!! AND WATER!!!

Posted in: Woods gets Westwood, Ishikawa at British Open See in context

GJDailleult - given the consolidated news media industry here, the sheer size of the travelling Japanese press packs for stories like this is simply brain-boggling. Seriously, Tiger probably will be a little taken aback at how much bigger the pack is. I'm always shocked at how many folks are needed to get that one photo opp.

But anyway, good luck to Ishikawa. As another poster noted, he gets bashed a lot here but as far as I see he's a good, decent kid who is handling the pressure with grace and good humour. Far nicer role model than cranky, nationalistic Ichiro or hermit Matsui.

Posted in: U.S. Embassy issues new warning over drink-spiking in Roppongi See in context

I'm out a fair bit in Roppongi and the general area, and I can say without a doubt I have never heard of this happening to anyone - obviously that doesn't mean this is an urban legend, but I'd disagree with anyone who says this is widespread.
