My wife is from that part of Chiba and indeed, the conditions in the summer are unpredictable (unless there is a typhoon passing :).

Another interesting point will be transportation, summer traffic in the area is horrendous.

The media always over reacts to these wonder kids. This will seem quite negative but what’s so “Japanese” about her? Do you remember much when you were four years old? I get she happens to have a Japanese passport and her mom is Japanese. She grew up in the US, learned tennis and trains in the US. Her Japanese language skills are atrocious. Why didn’t her mom teach her?

Frankly, her communication skills are weak in her native English, as well. Let’s see how her career unfolds and if she can be consistently a champion.

Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Microsoft, Apple, Cisco, Pfizer, Zimmer-Biomet, Nike, Stryker, Boeing, AIG, Dell, Eli Lilly, HP, Levi’s & on and on in every sector of the economy. Yeah, US companies just don’t get this hyper-demanding market.

I travel frequently (once a month minimum) for business all around APAC and without a doubt it is the Chinese. I was just in Phuket and was often disgusted with the absolute disregard for even basic decorum. If I had been there on vacation, I would’ve moved to a more obscure location even if it meant paying penalties. That bad.

I use Uber in Tokyo fairly frequently. Quite handy for business. Don’t have to stand outside in the cold or heat waiting for an empty cab. Easy to schedule a ride, nice cars, they know where you’re going before you get in and simply get out when you arrive. Itemized invoices that are easy to reconcile after the fact.

Yawn. Except for the fact that they waste my taxes, I tire of the endless fawning over these royals.

How is an emergency landing where no one was hurt, crazy? Helicopters are inherently difficult land when things go wrong. They don’t glide well.

Again, without knowing the numbers: helos, flights and flight hours, it is impossible to judge whether there are “a lot” of incidents. If they have 10 helicopters, that fly twice a week and 6 of them have had problems—- then you have some serious issues.

The heat may help with flexibility? My wife likes it and in the winter I can’t argue with the idea of working out in a warm room.

I’m in Osaka now (live in Tokyo) and agree. Overall tourism is great for the economy but some of these folks are out of hand.

This poor woman was subjected to some horrid behavior and though I doubt the frequency, I don’t doubt her mental and emotional anguish.

I’ve been commuting in Tokyo for 18 yrs. I’ve busted 3 chikans and one photographer taking upskirt pix. In all cases I took them to the station masters and in all cases they froze and were compliant, except one and I stepped on his arches and crunched his hand to help him realize he wasn’t going to make it to work on time.

Simply increasing? We should ask how many aircraft are there? How many flights do they make per day, week, month? How many flight hours per day, week, month? Need it for the last few years.

Without that data, it is difficult to understand the scope of the issue.

It is the ecosystem that works for me. I have iPads, an Airbook and Apple TV and of course iTunes. It all works so easily and smoothly together. I've never had to get support in ten years! I have to use Windows for work and it is crap in so many aspects. I'm glad there is competition out there for mobile phones but I'll be sticking with Apple - too damn easy.

Try compelling roles, great training, clear career progression, managers that value real productivity as opposed to butts-in-seats for 14 hrs/day equates to a "loyal worker", market-rate salaries, an end to meetings after 6PM and so on...

I use it in Hong Kong and Singapore constantly when traveling on business. I use it here in Japan about two or three times a month. Here it is a fancy taxi and not much more expensive than a regular taxi. Advantages are that they come excactly to where I am, know where I'm going and I simply get out when I get to my destination, no farting around with payment. I can easily switch between my personal account or business, which makes it easy to track for expenses. Also, it's connected to my Starwood account so I get points towards free hotel stays while I'm at it. I'm a fan.

When I don't feel like drinking for whatever reason, I usually have sparkling mineral water with lime or lemon. A tad more interesting than tap water and there are lots to try. I have never purchased or even tried any non-alcohol "beer". (Likewise for decaf coffee, margarine, "lite" or "diet" products.) Makes no sense to me. Consume quality in moderation. I don't begrudge those who do buy these type of products but the TV ads with people getting so excited about brown fizzy water are pretty damn funny.

Just like decaf coffee; I will never consume that and it is not allowed in my house. If I can't have or simply don't wish to have alcohol, I simply drink something else. When my wife was pregnant she drank some but it was pretty gross and she gave up.

Want to save ¥? Start with cutting events like baseball. All the coaches and stadiums, etc = bloat. Factories here are likely to have accurate time & attendance data. That seems to not be the case for office workers, health care, service industry, etc. Working less than 40 / week? Who does that? I would feel like I'm on vacation.

Maria - take the time to make real hummus once...use high quality olive oil and you'll never be satisfied with instant again.

It will be almost 3 years before this is operational. Now they merely know it floats.
