Absolute waste valuable class time for high school students, particularly if you see where that school is. More people die in car accidents than terror attacks in Oz. Perhaps if this was at a police academy or a military college it would be time well spent but this teacher is trying a bit too hard to seem relevant.

Darn slow at rearning some engrish there Ichiro-san, aren't ya? I mean if I spent that long in Basque country (notably one of the more difficult languages to pick up) I hope I would be able to comment coherently on topics related to my job by now.

Now every armchair general/diplomat has 65 yrs of information and data at their fingertips, we are omniscient relative to the Allied leaders at the time. We can only conjecture about what would've happened if we hadn't used the Bomb or if the Soviets had invaded Japan from the North as we invaded from Kyushu - would Tohoku have been like East Germany? Post-war strategic concerns and the continued kamikaze attacks and dearth of Japanese troops surrendering encouraged the use of the A-bombs and the subsequent massive B-29 missions on August 14th with over 800 aircraft.

This kind of idiocy, particularly on a tranquil Sunday morning, irks me. Why do we live in quiet area away from large roads, trains and factories only to have these farktards ruin it? One of the sodai-gomi dudes was ready to come to blows with me when I asked him, quite politely, to be quiet. Had my 5 yr old not been walking with me, I may have obliged him.

Well, they can definitely be held libel for fraud if someone signs a job offer and there is no job. My BS meter is pegging on that one. The whole interview process and offer letter is faked? Or the target had the mental capacity of a kumquat to begin with?

Outside of think tanks and college poli sci classes how many Americans think of strategic interests, ever? Funny how the bring up the dugong - amtracks (amphibious troop carriers) have been running around in those waters near Camp Schwab for decades. If the dugongs are there, they must not care about 26 ton diesel-powered monsters swimming around. Not mention there have been helicopters doing refueling and dropping recon Marines there since forever. I dove there almost weekly for a year back in '84 and never saw or heard of them. In fact, if they are endangered, it is because of the rampant development of the the non-military parts of the island.

Actually, until it proved that the parents and relatives are dead, they are NOT orphans. They obviously need food, shelter and medical care but until local authorities and UNICEF, etc establish that the parents and any other close blood relatives are not of this world, no one should be swooping in and taking them out of their country, good intentions or not.

sorry, unless it is a tofu burger on a rice bun, it is an american burger. He cut his chops at the Golden Arches, which is a masterful business at logistics, marketing and process. Then he learned to make actual burgers that sell for a lot at Kua Aina. I am not seeing anything Japanese about what he is doing.

Some people don't know how long they will stay and in her case she is probably emotionally disturbed and knew (on some level) she was committing fraud. I have stayed at hotels in quite a few countries for more than a month but of course always had a credit card registered unless it was bungalow on the beach in Koh Tao. Here in Tokyo a weekly mansion would make a lot more sense, for sensible folks.

The crotchbomber had a one-way ticket because he had a multiple-entry visa to the US (scary but true). Most people in Africa (and Tokyo for that matter) pay cash for tickets, that is meaningless in this context. Of course, he had a valid passport. The no luggage and entry/exit stamps to Yemen months earlier and the fact the he is a young muslim traveling alone, should be criteria that get him pulled aside for deeper questioning and a thorough screening.

Since we have 2,000+ security lanes in the US alone (not to mention all the overseas embarkation points), the Isreali model is not a useful comparison. That said, I doubt the "crotchbomber" would have answered any direct questions about his previous and current travel plans without giving enough concern for a more thorough questioning and search which would have blown his mission.

Movies are made to put butts in seats and sell popcorn, nothing else. Debate historical, cultural and other issues all you want but unless it is a documentary, a movie is made to sell tickets and that's all. If you don't look at your watch or fall asleep during the flick, it was worth the price of admission.
