Huge loss for the Japanese entertainment world. Shimura Ken was my favorite Japanese funny man. For me, no one else comes close. Make 'em laugh in heaven, Ken-chan. You will be missed.

Kumiko, you're right. Just the fact that she's been around for more than 25 years and still has enormous appeal among fans from their teens to their forties and beyond is something. I wish her all the best.

dokidoki2050,

Rakuten turned me down, too. Funny thing is, I order from them all the time and they keep sending me emails inviting me to apply for a credit card. I don't get it. I can only conclude that I'm continually rejected on the basis of me being a foreigner. I do have a steady job and income so I really don't see the reason why I keep getting rejected. Extremely annoying.

I also liked how President Obama interacted with the two A-bomb survivors. He was a class act.

Posted in: Musician Prince dies at his Minnesota home at 57 See in context

I was in shock and disbelief and even got a little choked up when I read the news this morning. I was sad when Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston died, but Prince's passing hits me particularly hard. Was fortunate enough to see him during the Purple Rain Tour. The man was a musical genius and one hell of a performer. Aw, man, Prince, you will absolutely be missed.(;_;)

Guess what Yuri, I am Japanese and I live in Okinawa and many, too many Okinawan's were more than willing and DID in reality their very best to kill as many American's as they could.

Yep, Yubaru's got a point there.

but stop suggesting one minute you're Japanese and Japan has apologized, then the next say you are not Japanese and your ancestors didn't start the war.

So does Mr. Smith.

Why do Japanese officials feel they need gimmicks to attract people? It all ties into their Cool Japan thing.

Yuri, maybe Okinawans aren't of "Yamato" descent, but they are Japanese - nationals or what have you.

I'm envious. I used to get that perimeter when I lived in the countryside, but now that I live in the city, people sit next to me even when I don't want them to.

Brother, I know how you feel.

At least Korea got rid of the Japanese. Okinawa still has them today as well as Americans.

What, Okinawans aren't Japanese?

Posted in: Cars rally against Futenma base See in context

Every base abandoned in Asia and Europe by the US since the end of The Cold War has resulted in an improved local economy and better standard of living, including less crime.

Interesting point.

What a bunch of sick, depraved worms. I'm not saying it's the woman's fault, but it's been my observation that many young Japanese women are too naive and trusting. They go overseas and if they meet a local (usually male) who speaks even a smattering of Japanese, they can rather easily get picked up. Anyway, my heart goes out to this poor woman.

Posted in: New Okinawan governor snubbed by Abe, Suga See in context

I would like ask people who oppose to this relocation plan on where the best relocation site instead of Henoko, Okinawa

Well, how about expanding Iwakuni Air Station? Prime Minister Abe is from Yamaguchi. See how people from his prefecture would like hosting thousands of U.S. Marines in the name of Japan's peace and security.

Move the base to one of the de-populated areas on the Mainland. It'll stimulate the local economy and alleviate some of the burden on the people of Okinawa. They have been incredibly patient all these years and Governor Onaga is saying enough is enough. I wish him all the best.
