"where violent crime is rare"

Almost once every couple days we're seeing an article on here about someone killing a family member, or something of the sort, I think this phrase has run its course. There's more than enough violent crime in Japan.

And before anyone says "yes but..." comparing Japan's murders to other countries murders doesn't make the number here decrease, it just make the county with higher numbers of murder look worse.

That said, there are less violent crimes than many other countries, which is a nice thing.

Anyway, I still think this whole thing is a massive waste of my tax money.

I don't understand your argument. There are no urinals in women's bathrooms, and I don't think a person trying to live as a woman will whip their genitals out in the women's bathroom in front of everyone, I don't see how anyone would know unless they made a point of it.

In any case this is about a born female trans to male person who does not want their genitals messed with, in order to be given the gender of male on official documents, if they look like a male, and have undergone a lot of other procedures, using bathrooms will also not be an issue as men's bathrooms also contain regular toilets, and, as far as I have experienced I have never been looked in on, or felt the urge to look in on other men doing their business to see if they have the right genitals.

What's the real problem here?

As long as the government makes suggestions rather than orders, people aren't going to think it applies to them and will continue to go out and do whatever they want.

Even in the cases that people are asymptomatic it is important to know they are infected because they can pass it to people who will not be asymptomatic and could die. I don't see the point in crying out at the media when the pandemic IS killing people and those who are asymptomatic are lucky enough to not get overly sick while passing the virus on to YOUR loved ones without even knowing it themselves.

A friend of mine is an infection control nurse, and she said hospitals are running short on surgical masks needed for surgery and other medical procedures. Hopefully Sharp will make masks that can help hospitals.

Some of you think this is an odd survey, but in a country where people are increasingly deciding against having a relationship, or finding themselves without the opportunity or means to have a relationship, which in turn is partly leading to a declining birthrate, and declining population, this survey is not strange at all.

It's interesting how many downvotes the people who are worried about the "we believe the survivors" part are getting.

I can understand the idea that these people have as well as how it's important to have a certain amount of belief in people who report a crime of any kind. But if the whole "belief" in "survivors" testimony is going to be the basis of whether someone is guilty or innocent, is definitely a scary notion.

Now don't get me wrong, rape/sexual abuse is horrific and I don't wish it on anyone, as well as I understand that the victims of it surely don't want to relive the experience, but, I do think that while initially we should take someone's claim into account, it must be investigated, and proven, before we think about lynching the "bad guy". This seems to be the idea that is common now, "we believe the survivors" so the person accused obviously did it, so lets ruin him/her.

I think this is probably the part that worries people the most.

This idea that politics is a game to be won is the most troubling one I think.

It includes forcing people to pick a side.

I hope the election of Trump has been a wake up call for all people to －think－ before they vote, and not decide based on which 'team' they like, rather which policies benefit them and their fellow countryman.

For those of you commenting that he still hasn't really done anything.

What can he do? Go around to different offenders and smite them with his pope magic?

The fact that he is standing on the forefront of the church and acknowledging it has and is happening, as well as condemning it, is already something pretty big for the church in the first place.

you have no idea how much was deliberate, negligent or intentional forgetting with nothing to go on but a statement by the parents.

I think this is something that most of the people who have commented on this story have missed.

Everyone is quick to grab their torches and pitchforks, but none of us have any real idea what has happened, and that's, like Strangerland mentioned, is why they have trials.

I know that for all of us who post here on Japantoday, it seems like an impossible feat to forget a child, as we are all perfect beings, but I'm sure that those of us in the world who are less perfect have the possibility of making mistakes. Some mistakes are bigger than others, we should all know that.

But I think that in this case, everyone should grieve for the child, and be less quick to judge exactly what happened on the parents' side of the story until everything has been properly investigated.

They do usually sound their klaxon if people are over the yellow line. If you pay close attention though, people hear it, but don't care about it.

That's the problem.

On top of that, the stations have, periodically, on the LED signs, as well as broadcast via the loudspeakers that "walking while using a smartphone is dangerous, so don't do it". Again, how many people actually give a damn?

I repeat, that's the problem.

For those of us who work overly long hours for our peanuts here in Japan, having a baby is expensive.

My wife and I are about to pop one out, and the money situation scares the fjords out of me.

I have a fairly good wage in comparison to many Japanese around me, I wonder how the average Japanese person would be able to afford a kid.

Some of you are saying the government should have evacuated people earlier, but if you know how the general public here react to evacuation warnings, a lot tend to wait til its too late (or actually affecting me) anyway.

(i'm up in kyoto, we had evacuation warnings during this rainfall, people were talking about "wow the kamogawa is overflowing and water is rushing like mad", while their phones were blaring warnings to evacuate, yet everyone seemed to think they didn't really need to)

I don't understand everyones need to make every country into a melting pot.

I don't understand why everyone points fingers at a country making its own rules about who comes in.

And I don't understand why people want other countries to operate in the way their home country does.

Legally, in Japan, 19 is considered as a minor.

The argument that a 19 year old can't understand the consequences of murder because of that, is ridiculous.

To say its horrific that the guy spent a long time in jail, waiting to die, is to say his crimes weren't horrible enough to warrent such, I know a lot of you don't agree, but his crime most certainly deserves punishment that is at least that harsh.

A heartbreaking testimony ≠ proof.

There are a lot of sexual assault claims flying about as of late, but I do think its important to bring in some kind of real proof.

It's interesting, many of you jump on this company which after hearing the reports, took measures to improve. While there was an employee who was a complete and utter c&%t. I understand the resentment, but come on guys, some of you are blaming the entire country, going as far as to mention the country being the wrong place for the Olympic games.

Yes, there are plenty of people in Japan like this douchebag employee, but that doesn't mean the whole country needs to be looked down upon.

@Yubaru I couldn't speak or read Japanese when I first gave blood in Japan, but even so, they didn't turn me away, they used the most broken and horrible English they could just to keep me in the door. So I'm kinda surprised that the website states that.
