Good for Japan, producing your own aircraft is a very good thing.

The only problem I have with her execution is the 2 men involved should have gotten the same. Kokorocloud: I'm with you, the article talks not only about the crime she's being punished for but her cheating and stealing, where is that beautiful loving spirit?

I think they grabbed these guys up because Japan wouldn't let the boat captain go. Now that he is to be freed will China free these Japanese? maybe they will hold them the same number of days or something.

Yeah, Slash couldn't get in either. Japan's drug laws are a joke, if the person in question doesn't have drugs on them, they should be admitted. Not that Japan is really missing out on much by not hosting Paris.

To each their own, in the States these sort of places are usually on highways out of town but they certainly exist everywhere.

Did she already burn through his money and needs more? The Jackson family is most responsible for Michael's messed up life and early death. None of them should be given anymor airtime.

Good, when you choose to move to another country you need to asimilate into the society. Wearing a burka is not compatible with modern French society.

Posted in: Obama won't yield on tax hike for wealthiest See in context

MistWizard: I would say that Gates has used his wealth quite responsibly, ever hear of the Gates foundation? I think his philanthropy does more good than taxing his money and turning it over to the incompetent US government. There is not one program that isn't busting with waste, fraud and pork. While we're talking about wealth and salaries lets talk about the US Senate for a minute. A US senator makes $174,000 per year and draws an average of $60,000 a year in retirement. 1/4 of US senators are milionaires. Instead of rasing taxes on the middle class which is most certainly what will happen, how about the senate and house members donate their salaries back to the government? I don't trust the government to spend my money anymore than I trust some CEO has my best interests at heart. Please don't be so naive as to think the system isn't rotten, the people don't have the power, never had and never will.

Posted in: Obama won't yield on tax hike for wealthiest See in context

Should be interesting to see if they only repeal the cuts for the wealthiest. A lot of middle class people benefitted, especially with the increase in the child tax credit. Obama says the tax cuts should stay for the middle class but at the end of the day I wouldn't hold my breath.

The governments of the world certainly don't like WikiLeaks. You can decide for yourselves but I think any means to close him down would be employed.

Posted in: Where, oh where has my little car gone? See in context

I know some guys in the export business and they all know it's a big problem. You have to be really careful about the paper trail on cars you procure to sell to Africa or Australia. Same thing happens with US cars stolen and sent to South and Central America, drives the insurance boys up a wall.

I'm sure they are, maybe Japanese companies should think about bringing some production back home since they are facing rising wages in China anyway.

Posted in: S Koreans rally on Japanese colonial anniversary See in context

OssanAmerica: right on the money. Korea is divided for the following reasons. First Japan lost the war and Russia marched in from the North. Second The UN couldn't reach a victory in the Korean war because China sent massive numbers of troops to fight the UN. China is ultimately the most responsible for the cuurent 2 state disaster we have now. The South should ask China for an appology as well.

I bet there were more than a few "scuffles" with police. The South Koreans really do like a good protest. As for an appology well, don't hold your breaths.

Not feeling that back tatoo, nor the outfit she's wearing. That said, I generally like most of Angelina Jolie's movies.

Posted in: The return of Charisma Man See in context

This series is pretty funny as it portrays some of the stereo types that are very much alive here in the land of the aging sun. When my wife and I were first dating she would always be telling me "you know that girl is hitting on you right?" and I would respond as the clueless dullard I am "really, I thought she was just being friendly" There is still some novelty value in being a foreigner. I have to say charisma man is no where near as geeky as some of the eikiwa set I've met The author should have made him fat with bad skin and an insatiable appetitie for all things samurai as that would be closer to the truth.

Posted in: Companies brace for end of cheap made-in-China era See in context

Hopefully trade will balance a bit more as Chinese wages increase. 1st world manufacturing except perhaps in Germany has been wiped out by the Walmart/China complex. Certainly paying higher prices for goods made domestically and employing your own people would be a good thing in the long run. Globalization has really only made CEOs rich and hurt workers. Of course it allows every trailer park dweller to have a flat panel tv but is that a good thing?

I don't each much beef so when I do it's more as a treat. That being said I always go for Japanese beef preferably Matsuzaka Gyu. I suppose if I consumed a large amount of beef I'd go Australian for the price and lower fat content but it's not even in the same league for taste.

Sorry but good on her. The current crop of kids has no respect for the elderly or anyone else. That'll teach the little punk to give up his seat. By the way, since when is 60 years old elderly?

Posted in: 18-yr-old girl arrested for online sale of photos of herself naked See in context

Klein: Thanks for the info, I was a little curious about what laws she actually broke. By the way considering nude photos of an 18 year old child porn is pretty insane. At the end of the day this is a stupid case and the police would better serve the public by concentrating on actual crimes that harm people.

Nope he couldn't give him a pass and I find it odd that McChrystal's aids had such loose lips. My guess is he was so frustrated he may have done this to make the news and get out of the job while exposing the incompetence of the administration. "Biden... Bite Me" That's a sentiment I can agree with.

Well Sassa san is a racist but at least he likes my brand of Gaijin. I say give permanent residents in local if not national elections because they live here and pay taxes here. Permanent residents own property and businesses and have just as much concern for what goes on in there towns and prefectures.

Posted in: Obama accuses BP of recklessness in national TV address See in context

Sushi: I don't dispute that America needs to reduce its reliance on oil but cap and trade is not the way to do it. Why do you think Mr. Inconvenient Truth is such a fan? Certain people stand to make billions from a scheme that will not end oil dependence but merely raise the cost of energy for everyone. In addition any costs that manufacturers pay get passed along. In the end it's just another way to further degrade average (read non-wealthy) people's standard of living. Who pays for it in the end? Hint the same people who always do the poor and middle class. If you want to end America's dependence on oil then the government needs to fund research to make that happen. Wind and solar aren't going to cut it. Building nuclear plants and making viable electric cars should be the first step while we develop other technologies.
