Republicans control neither the White House nor the Congress right now...

...therefore, the Repubs attempt to prevent American progress through shameless propaganda. Disgusting, at least to us Patriots.

Sarge, you mean you don't get military retired pay and benefits, including health care?

Couldn't agree more, SushiSake 3.

SushiSake3 - I agree that the conservatives' "me first" attitude shows their lack of true Christian values, but what really offends me is the attitude of those like sailwind who hide behind their military service to "justify" denying others benefits that all good Americans deserve.

Service is just that - service, both to one's country and its people. It's one of the reasons the USAF includes "Service Before Self" in its core values.

sailwind -

As far as your new meme that those of us that receive a pension because we obligated 20 years of our lives in SERVICE to others are somehow hypocritical in opposing this nightmare. We earned those pensions by full-filling our end of the bargain of our contract to serve. Uncle Sam is only living up to his end of deal. Now if you just want to GIVE people the same benefits I now enjoy without the sacrifice that I had made to earn them that is also madness just like this bill.

Sacrifice? Boo hoo hoo! I make that same sacrifice each day, hoping to see America improve through things like this very bill; you seem to have made it only to get retired pay and benefits. Sheesh!

I do agree on one thing: at least I have lifetime health care. Hopefully, with the passage of this bill, all Americans will as well. Helping my fellow Americans in this manner is one of the reasons I vote Democratic - I want to truly serve America (through vote and duty) rather than simply take your attitude of "me first".

SushiSake - Your 8:49 am post is beyond a doubt the best I've ever read on JT; no one has ever stated the facts about the Repubs so clearly and so inarguably correctly. Plus, anyone who can make Sarge say "I give up" (his 10:03 am "post") is a gentleman and a scholar in my book!

Hey Sarge, isn't your military retired pay from a "gov't-run program"?

Molenir - I've read the US Constitution many times; President Obama's actions are not unconstitutional, otherwise I'd never support them. Implying that other posters lack knowledge and understanding of the US Constitution simply undermines your own weak position, but then, no one's surprised by that, now are they?

Odogma -

There are laws and statutes politicians and citizens are bound to. One election does not change that.

Since US military personnel take an oath to defend The Constitution I can only conclude you are on this site as some kind of troll or poseur...

You know it, if you are an American citizen and in the US Air Force.

Ah yes, the last act of the desperate Republican who can't argue me down: cast doubt on my service and national origin. I laugh heartily when I see posts like yours, Odogma, especially when you try to tell me what I'm thinking. Rest assured I am an American, I do serve in the active USAF, and I'm proud of President Obama's actions to save this country from the neo-Nazi right wing.

Don't forget - I swore to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Molenir - Hot off the press, my friend:

http://www.pollster.com/polls/us/healthplan.php

Lemme help ya out a bit; see the black line, that's going upward? That represents those in favor of the bill; the red, downgoing line represents those opposed. After that, there's a whole list of "favor/oppose", but ya know, gosh darn it, I just can't find ANY that say 75% opposed.

The Republicans are lying again.

tigermoth -

It will be quite interesting if we're all still around in ten years to see what the believers in this nonsense have to say.

We'll be telling our kids what the extinct Republican party used to be, then our kids will thank us for keeping them healthy and saving the country.

Hear hear, adaydream. Excellent posts from you throughout this thread.

I have to laugh when the desperate, lying Repubs "claim" that "75%" of the population are against health care reform. I, along with you and the Democratic majority of America, say pass this bill. Now.

Molenir - Just for your information, "LOL" is not a counter-argument; it's more usually a desperate defense mechanism to "hide" the fact that you can't argue me down. Observe:

thats after all why the bluest of blue states elected a Republican to Teddy Kennedys seat.

Exactly. Refer to my earlier post.

Sounds like you're the one in denial. You and all your loony friends.

Nope, no denial. And my friends represent the majority of Americans; look at the current, duly-elected President of the United States of America for proof.

When poll after poll shows Americans overwhelmingly against this, its not Republican propaganda driving this, its the Dems own intransigence.

I've seen just as many polls that show Americans are for health care reform. Besides, wasn't it those of your ilk who claimed that the only significant poll was the one in November 2008? Changing your tune yet again, I see.

Their refusal to listen to the clear and unequivocal message being sent by their constituents. Well, come November, they'll pay for that.

This sentence refers to the GOP, not the Dems. Americans are too smart to let the party of Adolph Bush back in the White House. The party of "no" will indeed pay dearly in November 2010 - and especially in November 2012.

And 2 years from now, O is going to be praying that Republicans put up a weak candidate. If they put up anyone even remotely electable, O is gonna stand for Out.

Corrections: Change "2" to "7", when America elects the next Democratic President of the United States of America; change "praying that" to "knows that"; change "If" to "When"; change "remotely electable" to "completely unelectable"; and change "Out" to "Outstanding".

Now THAT's accuracy. You're welcome.

Molenir -

Actually the message was, stop the Democrats we foolishly put in power. We don't want what they're shoveling.

Nope, your version of the "message" is simply what the Repub propagandists want you to believe. Pity so many of you fell for it hook, line, and sinker, but thankfully, there are more good Americans out there than there are Repubs.

Ontopically, I say, along with the majority of Americans, pass this health care reform bill. Now.

Sarge -

Americans want health care reform, but the GOP is apparently blocking it, even though they don't control Congress or the White House.

But (tragically), the Republicans are still part of the American government. This is the message the voters of Massachusetts sent to the GOP when they elected Brown: Stop whining about being so outnumbered in Washington, stop being childish, unpatriotic obstructionists, and START doing your jobs.

No one's buying the tired old "pity us poor Republicans" bullsh@t anymore. You'll find out in November.

Helter_Skelter

Then why do so many come from all over the world to the United States for medical care? Arab sheiks, who can go anywhere, have reserved parking spaces at the Mayo Clinic. They're not going to Canada for their medical care.

For two reasons: One, the US has the best medical care in the world. Two, the Arab sheiks are rich; they can afford it. Too many Americans, however, can't afford it. Pass this bill. Now.

Thank you, Sarge. My point, of course, is that cutting down to even half a pack a day doesn't make a liar of someone who calls himself/herself a "former smoker"; referring to yourself in such a manner is a proven technique in helping smokers cut down to zero.

Moderator: Readers, enough of this. The topic is Obama, not any of you.

sharky -

Obama still smokes??? What kind of example is that for the children of our nation? Again, showing his lack of leadership. Obama...quitting is only a matter of discipline...wither you have it, or you don't. What's it going to be?

From the article above, obviously unread by sharky:

The president is the picture of health, eats modest portions and exercises regularly. He is an avid basketball player and golfer. The slightly elevated cholesterol levels, tendinitis in his left knee and occasional smoking were the only negatives noted.

Occasional, sharky, occasional. Just like ol' bushie.

adaydream - Congrats on successfully quitting smoking. As for taking shots at Obama, consider the following:

This is to inform you that your message on JapanToday.com has been removed for the following reason:Off Topic "Bush is also a smoker; ask anyone who was at the American Embassy in Tokyo about seven years ago." --JapanToday.com Moderator Team

Apparently, it's just fine to bash Obama, but not bush, at least according to JT's wonderfully "unbiased" moderators.

Posted in: Obama signs one-year extension of Patriot Act See in context

Once again, we see the right-wing slant of JT. Compare the headline:

Obama signs one-year extension of Patriot Act [emphasis mine]

with the first sentence of the article:

President Barack Obama has signed a one-year extension of several provisions in the main U.S. counterterrorism law, the Patriot Act. [emphasis mine]

JT's intentionally misleading headline makes it seem that the entire Patriot Act is being extended, when in fact, nothing is further from the truth.

Just more pathetic political polarization from Japan Today.

Wolfpack -

Why not let people run their own lives?

We do. It's why we have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Without it, you'd have anarchy or totalitarinism.

Ontopically, you undermine your argument with false support like:

Such lack of common sense is exactly why ObamaCare is so unpopular with the American people.

The Health Care Reform Bill is NOT unpopular with most Americans; health care reform is one of the main reasons we elected Obama. He's simply doing what the people have told him to do.

Excellent, adaydream! Let these unpatriotic naysayers do their own research - the burden of proof is on Sarge, RomeoRamen, and their ilk.

Ontopically, of course the Democrats are pushing ahead on health care; it's what Americans hired them to do. Nothing surprising there.

fussagaijin - ROTFLMAO! You post a pic from 2008 and expect me to take it seriously?! LOL! Re-read further up this thread - I've already defeated that "argument" with another poster. Find my a pic taken within the past six months.

As for Mr. Smith's fitting into a normal seat (in your link), he looks pretty comfortable to me.

Sorry if you have a problem with fat people, but discrimination is still immoral, whether it comes for you or some airline.

fussagaijin - Dude, you're just making yourself look foolish now. READ my post (it's right above your last one) to see how I've already defeated your "reasons" why Smith bought two seats.

But you did get one thing right: Case closed, victory to USAFdude!

Posted in: Actor-director Kevin Smith ejected from plane for being oversized See in context

Taken directly from the article:

Smith said he had no trouble buckling his seat belt and lowering his armrests. "I can buckle that seat belt and that is a hallmark for any fat person," Smith said. Smith did purchase two seats for the flight to Burbank, but he was allowed to board an earlier flight as a standby passenger, and only one seat was available on that flight. The extra seat is not a necessity, he said, but a luxury because "Southwest flights are cheap." "I'm flying on the welfare airline, food-stamp airline," he said. "So I think I can indulge myself with two seats, and I can afford to do it."

Well fussagaijin, my work here is done. But I must say, I give you props for taking my defeat of your argument with such cheerfulness! Bit of advice: read the article yourself, as closely as I did; it'll help your credibility. Looking forward to defeating... er, debating you on future threads! I'll even bring the cherry for the sugar on top!

Posted in: Actor-director Kevin Smith ejected from plane for being oversized See in context

fussagaijin - "Next" what? Next way of embarassing yourself by showing how little you've read the article? LOL!

The fact that Southwest let him fly AT ALL proves he was "fit" enough to fly; the issue is Southwest blatant disrespect to a paying customer, for which integrity demands they earn my lasting boycott. NEXT!

hworta269 - Solution: make the seats bigger.

Posted in: Actor-director Kevin Smith ejected from plane for being oversized See in context

adaydream - Of course I defend Mr. Smith - he's in the right. That, of course, is my opinion. I'm also of the opinion that airlines would do well to make their planes' seats bigger and farther apart.
