I was sitting in on a 3rd-year middle school social studies class one day at the school where I teach and the topic was, "things that we do in Japan that foreigners might not understand." They generated a list of food, which included things like natto and umeboshi...then the teacher added "dolphin." The kids were surprised and the teacher said, "yes, they actually do that some places here, isn't that terrible? The poor things. We should stop that, don't you think?" ...this is just from my personal observation.
