What a nightmare.... I feel so sorry for the hell Megumi's parents have had to go through

I have to say that very few Japanese drivers stop or even slow down at crosswalks...which makes crosswalks a danger by Lull the pedestrian into a false sense of security...

Well, truth be told , physical size can be both an advantage and handicap. That's one of the reasons Japan (or any other Asian country) will never seriously be a contender for the World Cup. To say body size and strength is not a relevant factor in one's (or a team's) ability to dominate a sport is just plain denial.

The ol' "I was drunk" excuse doesn't hold much water in countries with developed judicial systems.

Posted in: Japan needs to keep apologizing, making gestures of contrition and seek a fuller understanding of its shared past with Asia. The apologies tend to be vague and lack specific references to atrocities a See in context

The difference between the apologies of the Germans and the Japanese is simply that the Germans actually meant it and the apologies are reflected in National laws and informed opinion by not only politicians but the average citizen.

This is insane...I originally thought it was 'just' a murder...which is horrific enough...But a beheading and hand being cut off? This is a hardcore psycho...knowing how lenient they are over here I with juvenile offenders, I cringe at the idea that this nutcase will be walking around freely in public again....

Posted in: Ozawa says Abe's policy shift risks taking Japan down dangerous path See in context

Actually, Japan pays more than half for military expenses ...But then again don't you think it's a pretty good deal? Having America as big brother ally watching over the likes of Russia, China, and North Korea is an asset that cannot be underestimated. Japan is in a pretty tough neighborhood and most of the surrounding countries have no love for it. If Amercia were to pull out if Japan, things would not bode very well for Japan...but then again, I'm sure Abe's vison of a military would be able to take care of things.

Posted in: Campaigners push for pacifist Japanese people to win Nobel Peace Prize See in context

Ironically the news story right below it in the site is "Abe pushes to build military". Japan was/is only pacifist because it was put in a corner and had no alternative...Pacifism served it's country well, with protection provided by THE USA, it was able to focus it's financial, intellectual, and manpower energies towards its economiy. The problem is the other countries in Asai know Japan better than ithe a Japanese people do.

Agree with tamarie. The problem foreigners have with these Japanese idol groups is the fact that the main fan base are (older) males...some in their 40's and 50's....and it's basically socially acceptable here.
