After WWII in 1953 the U.S. and Allied Powers cancelled 50% of German debt from WWI & WWII, the rest of the debt payment was limited to 3% of exports. Greece, who was occupied by Germany also forgave German debt and this is how Germany repays Greece.

First my deepest condolences to Kenji Goto's family, especially his children. My condolences as well to the people of Japan.

Second the media need to stop referring to these cowardly thugs as ISIS, they are Da'ish.

Next, the West has been coddling the House of Saud for way to long. It is the house of Saud along with the Wahhabi that are breeding these cretin and exporting them. The U.S. in particular needs to stop acting like a serf to the dictatorship of Saud and law down the law. The should immediately bomb a Wahhabi madras-ah as well as one residence of the House of Saud, this nonsense would end quickly.

All food should be grown locally and naturally.

NAFTA not only destroyed Mexican farmers it destroyed corn crop diversity.

Monsanto is constantly attacking U.S. farmers.

The TPP gives too much power to corporations, and is an assault on free market principles.

"For this and many other reasons, the TPP represents an astonishing assault on democracy and national sovereignty, threatening not only existing public-interest laws, but also the ability of governments to pass such laws in the future."

The right to vote in the U.S. is under attack, the issue of an ID could easily be solved by putting a picture on the social security card that is issued to everyone, but the Neo-Confederates in Congress block such efforts.

The Bush Administration investigated allegations of voter fraud and found it to be non-existent.

WASHINGTON, April 11 — Five years after the Bush administration began a crackdown on voter fraud, the Justice Department has turned up virtually no evidence of any organized effort to skew federal elections, according to court records and interviews.

Left wing media doesn't really exist in the US. There's only somewhat center-right and far right.

Panabelle you are partially right, the problem is 5 corporations control all media in the U.S., this is why they get so much right wing extremist propaganda.

And since we are talking about Piers, why am I reading this in Japan Today? How is it relevant to Japan today?

Well said! People forget about the indigenous or native peoples, which is sad because we are all Native People. Some of us have been so "civilized" that we forget this truth.

Obamacare will not destroy the U.S. economy, Trickle Down economics already has. Notice David Stockman uses the word "destroyed" instead of destroy.

This was not a gun free zone. He shot a guard and took his AR-15 to inflict more damage. Seems to me like a bunch of American cowboys are on this board trying to convince everyone else that more guns are good. Believe that and I have a bridge to sell you.

The Republicans are owned by corporations , these corporations are angry that they no longer will get a tax subsidy to purchase insurance because it will now go to the individual. The Republicans enjoy "government healthcare" but they claim they are going to rescue the Americans from "government healthcare". That is hysterical!

Whether you agree with the U.S. taking military action or not does not matter. What matters is that on the one hand the U.S. Congress cries that the U.S. is broke but now clamors for military action, how do they propose to pay for it? If the NeoCons want another war they need to raise taxes to pay for it.

You sound like some American propagandist. Try their healthcare system, it is designed to enrich the insurance companies and nothing more. If you work for a living, even an upper middle class living, do not get sick. I agree with fightforjustice, if TPP is so great, why all the secrecy?

@Elbuda Mexicano

To be honest the average American doesn't care, as long as he gets his daily dose of Rupert Murdoch propaganda nonsense, is allowed to keep his gun collection that he believes is keeping him safe from his fellow American, and he makes damn sure his neighbor can't send their kids to college or get adequate healthcare. These are the things that make the average American happy.

That is an example of what I am talking about. The U.S. Industrial Elite was no longer able to pollute their own lands as much, so they just move operations to China. The Chinese people have been duped by their government. People, all people must wake up!

@Secular Beast Thank for the link, but those "vacuum ships" are exactly what needs to be banned by international law. Those of tools of industrial fishing, I am talking about the small fishing companies or the individual fishermen, they cannot compete with such vessels. The Chinese are being used as tools of the Industrial Ruling Class that seeks to consume every resource on the planet.

Posted in: Nuclear Regulation Authority drafts new safety rules for plants See in context

Why bother with nuclear energy? It is too dangerous, you cannot dispose of it, no private insurer would insure a nuke plant. Japan is swimming in Geo-thermal, harness that. On top of that there is solar, wind, and tidal power, there are options.

Posted in: China concerned as Japan, Taiwan sign fishing agreement for disputed isles See in context

Now you are taking Japan and Taiwan. These islands have been fishing grounds for fishermen from China, Japan, Taiwan, The Philippines, so let it remain so. why should any government claim it? Male it a friendship zone for all fishermen to use. Stop being hostile, it is the Industrial Ruling Class that wants us all to hate each other.

China is not the largest owner of U.S. Treasuries, they are the largest foreign owner which amounts to about 11%. The U.S. taxpayer is the largest owner of U.S. debt.

Considering Limbaugh's statement on Haiti as well as his attack on soldiers returning from Iraq that criticized Bush and Cheney, his attack on Gen. In Saudi Women are denied the right to vote, denied freedom of employment, denied equality in marriage, and are forced to cover their bodies. This is why Michelle Obama did not go to Saudi Arabia along with President Obama. In March of 2008 a woman in Riyadh was murdered by her father for using Facebook. Where in the Muslim world does a free society or Representative form of government exist? According to a Journal of Democracy Article in 2002 there are none.
