Posted in: Who would you say has been the most famous fictional character of the past two centuries? See in context

Darth Vader didn't make the list? Probably not the most famous, but should have made this list at least. I'm sure he'd be in the top five.

Posted in: Many Japan Today readers hate AKB48 and insult them every chance they get. Yet the megapopular all-girl group has tens of millions of fans in Japan and Southeast Asia. Why so much hate for the group? See in context

If you really need to ask that question, then you are probably to young to understand the answer.

Posted in: Republican jokes about buying license to hunt Obama See in context

Well, to be somewhat fair, while the joke was in extremely poor taste it was as much about politics as anything else. I seem to remember when Mondale was running against Bush Sr. in '88 his pick for VP was down South somewhere and when asked how he felt about guns he said something like, "Of course I like guns I'm a hunter. I'm a Quail hunter." Referring to Dan Quayle of course. I don't remember if there was an uproar or not, but it may have been drowned out because of Mondale's affair on his yacht Monkey Business. Still scary to hear these kinds of comments though. Whether Obama ends up be a dud or not (and I don't believe he will) I'd hate to see another president assassinated.

That sucks. I used to live about 15 minutes from there. They've had a lot of problems with gangs around that area for about the last 10-15 years.

Posted in: Big 3 U.S. carmakers beg for $25 billion or millions of layoffs will follow See in context

I'm pretty dense when it comes to this subject, but didn't a similiar thing happen to a bunch of the Japanese automakers in the 90's after the Bubble? I thought GM,Ford, and Dodge bought huge stakes in Mitsubishi, Mazada, Isuzu, ect. Do any of you think a similiar situation might come about if the Big 3 are refused their bailout? As I said, I don't know much about this subject, but I'm curious about your opinions.

Posted in: World leaders promise to revive global economy but take few steps See in context

I always wonder about these economic summits. How many millions of dollars were spent so that these bloated old politicians could fly to America and sit around discussing ways to prevent finacial waste in the future? There's no shame amongst the rich and powerful.

Posted in: Tokyo police, rail authorities hope to scare Halloween pranksters See in context

It's too bad the J police couldn't work with the foreigners planning the event to make sure it is safe and fun. I agree that drunk, naked, and vomiting people on a train is never an enjoyable experience for anyone, but I think they could easily keep it under control if they worked together. Just keep it confined to one car, make sure the party goers self police themselves, and set a definite time limit for the whole event. It might even become a yearly event that Japanese people look forward to seeing.

This picture is very interesting though if you look at the expressions on their faces. Only the fifth one up looks like she is really buying into the whole, "I'm here to serve you." thing. The rest of them look like they're thinking, "Ok, I'll put in my time at this stupid job until I can save enough to take a long holiday somewhere far away."

Yep, inhale second hand smoke all day, go deaf, and loose a butt load of money, not thanks. Though it is probably less risky than the stock market these days.

Man. if the imperial moat is anywhere near as toxic as the one around Nagoya Castle the guy will be lucky if a long prison sentence is all he gets. I'm surprised he didn't come out of there with a few carp or turtles hanging off of him. They usually will eat worms in a heart beat.

I wish he would have been more honest and said something like, "After drinking massive amounts of beer I was tossed in a pond ...".
