@TheBigRiceBowl. Regarding your software issue. If you are using an Apple computer and you need to convert the files, try downloading Handbrake from MacUpdate. It's free. Handbrake is a great video file converter and I've used it with my Linux digital camera's video files. However, if you're using Windows and are not happy with Microsoft software...

I hope this gets a lot of exposure in Japan. I'm not sure that we locals know how much other countries do care, especially our neighbours. Thank you for informing me JT.

Although seen too often, I think they are a good idea in principle. I wonder if they have any affect on the way people act towards each other? I got tired of giving up my seat on trains because it was a one man act. I talk to people who don't follow social norms, rather than wait for them to see the AC reminder tens of times.

I used my iPad for my entertainment the last few times I flew. It was enough because I could read, and see exactly what I had chosen before I left Japan.

Posted in: Nao Minamisawa tries out her Chinese on set of new drama See in context

ZenFreak: there are differences in the way of writing kanji in each country. The radical in particular. As Foxie has stated, there is hanja in Korea. Mainland China has a more simplified forms of kanji compared to the Taiwanese characters. The true reference would be Chinese characters, but using the term Japanese kanji alludes to the way the Japanese write Chinese characters. As for Russian kanji, I guess that could be their version of the cyrillic alphabet, for your reference Russian cyrillic.

I did the same in Korea. I wrote notes in Japanese kanji in my notebook and the locals could understand me. However, I haven't studied Korean, and surprisingly the price of everything went up.

Believe me, he didn't do it for APEC. He does it all the time here in Yokohama. Then there's the Japan Samurai tragic who rides the 5 o'clock Toyoko line train from Shibuya in full sports regalia and hard hat with streamers, exposing his knobbly knees year round.

The first place I stayed when I first came to Japan was across the road from Baji Koen. It gave me a romanticised view of Tokyo, but not a fragrant impression on weekends.

I think these chaps are paying for their arrogance. There are other ways to protest rather than potentially incite violence.

Kusanagi said: “I really hope this drama strikes a chord with not only Japanese viewers, but American viewers as well.” It will be a C flat suspended when they hear their English accents.

It shows that things are turning for the better in Japan. On Sunday, I watched four policemen in central Yokohama caution at length, a 16 year old girl. They were being very abrupt with her. Along with these scootards being arrested, and the girl being seriously chastised, it's a sign that the image of the local constabulary is undergoing a change.
