Posted in: Kishida vows 'ceaseless' aid as snow hampers quake relief See in context

And how do you get relief supplies to the cut off area???

Two years ago, on-line shopping companies and delivery services were gushing over the use of drones to deliver medical goods and urgent supplies to isolated places. This would be an ideal scenario for their use.

But nothing has happened.

With roads unpassable in many places, and aid unable to get through, what has happened to the drone deliveries that were being touted a couple of years ago by some of the delivery companies and on-line shopping sites? Medical supplies, remote places, emergency goods? This is where they are needed now.

Make sure that the dogs have proper protection when walking over broken glass, hot debris, and splintered wood. The ones shown on TV had nothing on their paws.

The old saying comes to mind...

'Who will guard the guards?'

What, if any, oversight is there?

Posted in: I think the investigation will focus a lot on the clearances ... and then also what the JAL cockpit crew could see. Could they physically see that airplane on the runway? See in context

Too much speculation, suggestion and leaks on what might have happened and what might been said, as 'experts' get their sound bites in.

Just let the professional accident investigators do their jobs, rewind the tower tapes and review the radar data, and analyse the cockpit voice recorders and black boxes.

Look after your own country first.

Increasing numbers living below the poverty line, a rapidly increasing elderly population, a broken pension system, deteriorating infrastructure, workforces issues, the list goes on...

Compared to his father, he's done very little the past few years. Just a handful of highly orchestrated speeches.

Pure pantomime performance. Though for odd reasons, these politicians keep receipts, correspondence, fax transmissions, used envelopes, and the occasional USB Memory stick.

The few people who decide are vulnerable to persuasion, such as financial incentives to their areas, and the ubiquitous brown envelopes. Amply demonstrated in other areas where multiple power plants where built, and when the subsidies and incentives ran out, they offered to support newer ones.

Posted in: Is it OK to take antidepressants while pregnant? See in context

It's a Risk vs. Beneft Assessment. During the first trimester (first three months), drugs should be avoided unless absolutely necessary, to avoid any adverse effects on foetal development. (As an aside, this is when thalidomide caused those massive limb defects). During the later stages of pregnancy, with a relatively mature foetus, there is less risk, but RBAs are still carried out. Those specialists who do this have a great deal of experience, following both of their patients for the whole duration of pregancy, and afterwards.

Suspending shipments currently in production, all well and good.

Posted in: Kishida's gamble to oust powerful LDP faction may plague gov't See in context

These are just puppets on show for the General Public. The real powers who pull the strings are organisations such as Nihon Kaigi, and the factions who spend a lifetime owing and paying back favours to each other, carried down from their fathers and grandfathers.

New cabinet secretary Hayashi distinguished himself during his tenure at the Foreign Ministry by achieving nothing, but he did not rock the boat over there. The permanent bureaucrats saw to that.

Posted in: Japanese whisky turns 100 as craft distilleries transform industry See in context

There is a new distillery 2,500 metres up in the Southern Alps, Igawa Distillery, which began maturing whisky last month, owned by Juzan paper company. There is just one road up there, closed to normal traffic, a forestry road; you can cycle or hike up there, if you can get past the landslides and collapsed roads. The building is hidden in the trees by the side of the Oi river. IIRC, the first batch will be available in 2026.

They only seem to function together when bland PR statements are necessary!
