The referee was bad, Australia did well with one man down and Japan did well considering that it was an away game. Japan's soccer has improved tremendously but not to the point where they can beat Australia easily. I still say there pretty much equal (now). Couple of years ago, Australia was much stronger so it shows a marked improvement that the world is now noticing except you.

She should be in jail for lying to police, wasting police time and dumping a body, at the very least.
I agree

@Cletus
I thought the same. But if the allegations were true, he probably violated the convention since he was receiving money from J-companies for information....that was sensitive? Maybe some kind of restrictions for diplomats that he violated.

This is what I hate, she is sorry she was caught! Why saying and acting sorry after the fact gets you off in Japan is unbelievable!
Because that's not the reason why she "got off." It's hard to figure out what she was charged with but I'm assuming the prosecutor didn't press for murder...especially because it was too hard to prove by that point. It's interesting that she got a suspended sentence though. Want to know the situations and circumstances of the defendant that persuaded the judge to hand this sentence down.

Japan is the one who should untie the knot that has been tied in the first place! Japan has the first class economy with third class politics.How many PMs have been changed over the past few years in Japan?

“We remain deeply concerned, however, that Mr Chen’s supporters and family members who remain in China face the real threat of retaliation from Chinese officials,” read a statement from the Congressional Executive Commission on China, set up in 2001 to monitor human rights there.
I hope his relatives will be safe and I truly wish that China will embrace human rights issues that are valued and protected in the US. I believe every country should protect its people with this fundamental right. China is so rich in history and culture. It will become more awesome if it progresses in this aspect!

They have a right to put up any statue they want in a park they basically own. How are you going to come to my park and tell me to change something. These officials are over reaching. Or they assumed that the statue was owned by the gov.
Correct all the way. And to those who talk about the 1965 treaty, I agree that the comfort women issue is legally settled. The problem with this story is that the people of this town are setting up a monument in the US. They, as in the town residents, have every right to put it up. What made it even worst was that these bureaucrats tried to "bribe" the officials to remove it. Sadly, that is truly disgusting behavior.

“Kim has postponed his plan to visit Tokyo. He will cautiously handle this issue in consideration of public sentiment,” a defense ministry spokesman told AFP.
That's BS because they were in talks already. They could have easily gauged public sentiment, especially when they announced the agreement in the beginning. There has to be something that triggered the postponement.

Does that mean it was only the SK government that backtracked the agreement or the Japanese government as well? The article seems like it was only the SK, but it doesn't really give specific reasons why. It's too bad too since they were going to sign it this month. So close, yet it didn't happen.

@Yuri,
Yes, the US will respond since Japan is an ally. The issue will be on how the US should respond. Just because you think the US won't respond by A-bombing NK doesn't mean that the US won't respond to Japan's call.

If you really read what the ladies were saying, I think they're all really showing true sportsmanship. I bet the ladies meant that they were going to pour all their hearts out to try and win the gold medal. But, they will play fair and square to try and win it all. I don't think there's nothing wrong with that. I base my assumptions on the respects they have of the Japanese team, which are still lower in rank than the US. They could have easily said something uncalled for. Look at what they're saying and you'll realize the character of these players. To be able to respect your opponent shows sportsmanship. As for "revenge," poor choice of word made by the writer of the article. Not really fair to place blame on the American soccer players since I doubt they said they wanted revenge.

Anyway, I'm just surprised the media isn't having a fit and automatically calling them missiles -- oh wait, it's Japan.
Perhaps because medias around the world, aside from N. Korea, believes that they are not really missles but in fact real satellites?

I'm arguing about the comment that says Japan is not a country that values freshness. Just because it originally started off with preserved fishes, my statement still stands IF the Japanese enjoys and values fresh sushi today, doesn't it?
Of course, Japanese having sensitive palette is absolutely rubbish. Having a sensitive palette means the Japanese are somehow anatomically different than others which I totally disagree with.

The country that gave us cup noodles and canned coffee from vending machines is not a country that values freshness.
That same country gave us sushi as well.

I wonder how many of these commenters actually studied the Japanese legal system, or just the legal system of any countries in general? "drunk and had no recollection" is a defense based on diminished capacity. It goes to argue against the mens rea element of the crime. In this case, I don't think his intent for saying those words were any defenses to his argument. That won't work either in the US or in Japan.
