Posted in: Japan losing its manufacturing edge to South Korea See in context

Ogi@

South Korea is light years away from achieving the same dominance Japan enjoys in advanced manufacturing

Pssst, a small reminder from middle school physical sci class, a light year is distance over time. S Korea might be years away from catching up with this technology, but I assure you Korea is still just across the Sea of Japan

There is one video where you hear the mother

interesting, the article above specifically names "Inoue Emiko" yet in even in today's Japan Times it doesn't mention her name. An earlier post here noted the "English" Japanese press not using Emiko Inoue's name. Why is it that even Cleo does this? Is this Emiko Inoue-san a minor (not!!!!!!)? Gawd forbid

last time I flashed the peace sign at the boys in blue, after winding down their window and questioning my intention, they informed me that the two-finger peace sign was given by one hand, not two. Wonder if they got it on camera, but of course, I wasn't speeding on foot.

What a pity this child may not see either her mother or her father for the next decade or longer. Hope Ms Inoue gets used to jail food.

So are there any guesses on what game piece they used to represent their places?

well, apparently from the article, his "willy" was not a piece on the board, but a pound of flesh, that's another story.

Posted in: 31.4% plan no summer break See in context

'Lost loved ones' sounds a bit like cheapo translation services again

I wouldn't take that "cheapo translation" very serious since "visit the graves of lost loved ones" is very English and this site is VERY English. Google or yahoo serach "visit the graves of lost loved ones" and you'll get an outstanding 10 million plus hits.

"Visit ..." or "visiting ancestral graves", on the other hand, generates less than half a million hits in a search engine. Cheapo sounds like an awful cheap shot for something so common. Anyway, glad so many are staying here. I'm leaving Japan to visit lost loved ones, BTW. Looks like my Tokyo electric bill will be cheapo this summer

Okinawa is an ideal resort area. Japanese people don't need a passport to come here and people speak the same language.

so what has been preventing Japanese from going there? Pleeeeeease don't say coz the US military is there. Perhaps Hawaiian, Guam, Philippines, Thai, Bali and Saipan hotels, etc, just to list a few examples, are far less expensive than one night in naha

Try hanging out in a local low-end discount supermarket instead of the places where people go to look affluent.

Is that the section in which shoppers buy eggs from the kawai-sou-chicken section?

Meanwhile, others'-- the affluent--eggs will jump from 350 yen to 385

But if you think that is not enough, you must have a paranoid delusion that some murderous nut would stumble on it.

What narrow-minded thinking--a murderous nut. God forbid a young boy stumble into a public toilet and find ... never mind we don't need "what if(s)... Hit this cop with a "wake-up" fine and put him behind a desk where he belongs before his "forgetfulness" harms someone.

We will endeavor to ensure it does not occur again.

last year an off-duty officer left his gun in the toilet of a conveny store in another prefecture (at 3AM) found sometime later by the store employee (much longer than three minutes). Good luck with that "does not occur again." Safest bet: don't give cops guns, they never use them anyway.
