A Chinese Foreign Ministry statement urged the U.S. to stop arming Taiwan and stop what it called “dangerous moves that undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.”

Hypocrites!! The only country undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is China and you might as well add the South China Seas too.

Yawn. . ., anything Wang says is just for his domestic audience.

Anything directed to the overseas audience is always two-faced with China's demands.

The import ban is just for show. If the waters are so dangerous, why are Chinese fishing boats constantly near Japanese waters?

"a correct historical perspective"

Don't forget to mention that the CCP can't take credit for the war of resistance, it was the Chinese Nationalists.

We also hear many positive reports of Chinese interests investing huge sums of money in infrastructure and development in 3rd world countries.

Right, . . . investment for China's interest! Yes, especially those debt-trap loans to underdeveloped countries.

Bilateral relations could be better if only China would act as a respectable member of the international community.

Frequently, we hear negative reports of China's relations with other countries over trade, technology, wrongful arrests and territorial intrusions.

Where did you get the 40 years number?? As article said, he was wrongly arrested from 1966, therefore until this year, he was a wrongly accused prisoner for 58 years!!

Why don't you read the first paragraph of the article again?? As article said, he spent more than 4 decades on death row, NOT 58 years!! He was released in March 2014 when he was granted a retrial.

Put in some elbow grease and you can find out more on Wiki!!

I hope he's getting massive compensation.

Compensation is paid to defendants acquitted after a retrial based on the number of days detained. There is maximum of ¥12,500 per day.

Mr. Hakamata spent 47 years and 7 months on death row.

17,365 days X ¥12,500 per day = ¥217,062,500 (rough estimate)

Mr. Hakamata could also file lawsuits against the national and prefectural governments seeking damages for emotional distress.

So much credit to Mr. Hakamata's 91 year old sister, Hideko, she has supported her brother since the beginning!!

and if Japan have nothing to hide.

Japan has nothing to hide and had agreed to China's "Sampling" in September. But Japan also requested the IAEA to be involved so as to ensure fairness and objectivity. Because we all know China!!

Posted in: U.S., Canada warships pass through Taiwan Strait See in context

There is an obvious difference in reporting of the passing through of the Taiwan Strait.

Taiwan's defense ministry said Monday the U.S. and Canadian ships travelled "from south to north" of the strait and the situation in the surrounding sea and airspace "remained normal".

China said Monday that the U.S. and Canadian actions had disrupted "peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait".

So when China enters another country's territory, it's not a provocation.

China has no shame!!

Since the change of ownership in the SCMP in 2016, concerns have been raised about the paper's editorial independence and self-censorship. Critics including **The New York Times, Der Spiegel, and The Atlantic have alleged that the paper is on a mission to promote China's soft power abroad.**

Well, if you say others fail to read the UN General Assembly Resolution 2758.

Why doesn't China follow the 2016 ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. The court ruled against China’s claims. The tribunal concluded that China’s nine-dash line had no legal basis under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea

You can't have it both ways unless you're a hypocrite!

Posted in: China says it has launched military drills around Taiwan See in context

It is important to note that many many people regard Taiwan as a country. It has a government, it's own passport and a military. And the best part is that politicians/officials from many different and respectful countries visit Taiwan. China can do nothing about it but throw a childish tantrum. Wink!
