Posted in: The KFC-Christmas connection See in context

The japanese are funny. aren't they?? All this fuss about Christmas which isn't, even a holiday. Then eating horrible slimy fat dripping KFC and then love making at the hotel. And they all have to do the same thing as they are japanese. Highly amusing!

I've been boxing for many years. At least we get used to giving and taking punishment. Karate is dangerous if it gives practioners an over inflated sense of self defence capability as here.

Posted in: Karate: The Complete Kata See in context

Kata is a complete waste of time. Much better for karate practioners to spend the time learning self defence moves, throws and ground work as in Brazilian Jujitsu. Myself, I do boxing and wrestling which I really enjoy. They give me a great work out and are useful skills.

Posted in: Hatoyama says Japan should embrace more migrants See in context

Japan is NOT an attractive place to live and work for most western foreigners at least. Some crappy god forsaken 1 year contract english teaching "job". No thanks! Good western foreigners would only come if there were proper secure jobs/careers available. And that's never going to happen as the japanese are very happy keeping the foreigner in his/her place and as expendable labor.

Why, when the foreigner first arrives at the airport he/she is fingerprinted as a criminal. What a welcome indeed! And where is the dual nationality possiblity that most normal advanced countries allow?? Ha ha, japan is just going to sink into oblivion. But who cares??

Posted in: New graduates face gloomy job prospects See in context

Gosh, isn't our capitalist system so wonderful?? A few people become mega rich but many are just thrown on the scrap heap. You can see why so many are moving into crime these days. Hacking and drug dealing are very profitable. Living conventionally just doesn't work anymore.

Yes these "new" employees have a life and don't want to sit in the office until midnight or go drinking with their stinky oyaji bosses. And these old gits, who have given up their lives for their companies, just don't like it.

I expect the girl filmer enjoyed the sausage display! But really what a fuss about nothing. They didn't attack anyone, didn't rape anyone. Just aired the unmentionables. So what, leave them alone.

Now they can give a nobel prize to ANY scientist because he/she might invent a cure for cancer one day, give a nobel prize to ANY economist becuse he/she might solve all the world's economic troubles someday etc etc....

The nobel prize has become a big joke.

Posted in: Controversy brewing over visa-health insurance link See in context

So if I've got it right, from next year visa holders must show proof of health insurance for renewal but most teachers work for companies that refuse them insurance?? Even though it's a legal requirement. Why the hell is the japanese government not cracking down hard with fines/prison time on these law breaking companies?? I guess as foreigners can't vote they don't give a damn. Looks like things are heading for meltdown next year.

Posted in: What is your impression of the English-teaching industry in Japan? Have things improved since Nova's collapse or are there still bad apples in the barrel? See in context

The only people who become english "teachers" are the desperate and otherwise unemployable. How could the english industry ever be in good shape?? Anyone with a modicum of self respect or intelligence would be doing a proper job. Now if the english teaching industry were to only employ properly qualified teachers and paid them a decent salary, that would be a different matter.

Posted in: Mr James See in context

Most western foreigners in japan are short termers ie they stay less than 3 years and probably are employed just as english teachers. So naturally they are not concerned with their rights/dignity etc. This is not surprising since mostly they come to japan for cash and girls. Naturally they are against or indifferent to Debito Arudo. Just reading this thread illustrates the point.

Debito is fighting for the long termer who may well be a permanent resident, have a japanese wife and kids and a proper job/career. The short termer and the long termer are very different animals in their perspective.

hoserfella, Yes Debito does agreat job. Naturally the short termers, the english teachers, don't care as they come here to be charisma man.

Pathetic campaign, but I see that the the short termers here give the seal of approval, which is to be expected.
