Great! More babies enjoying a nice meal and less cranky people taking up space. I'm good with that.

Give him some privacy. At most just mention he's undergoing a routine medical procedure.

"We got us in this mess, as we're the only ones capable of getting us out."

I don't think I like this reasoning.

This reminds me of Dark Helmet from Spaceballs. I need one of these.

Posted in: Tom Cruise rants at 'Mission: Impossible' crew in London over COVID safety See in context

In August, Mr Cruise saw Tenet in London at the cinema and the social distancing in the video coverage looked pretty minimal.

The impact is different when you don't follow covid safety protocols in your personal life vs work life. I'm pretty sure the insurance company won't cover a production shutdown if they know safety protocols were lax and people weren't following them. Cruise is trying to be the gold-standard in Hollywood, showing the industry that movies can be made safely during the pandenmic. I'd give credence to your opinion that he's a bully if we'd heard about this type of behaviour before, but I think this is the first time.

As a Canadian, I really wish Trudeau would focus on important issues that affect Canadians. Instead of trying to prove that he's ultra-progressive.

His son in-law and chief advisor is a slavic Jew, kinda hard to peg him as a racist.

He's also white and extremely wealthy.

Posted in: Japan on Olympic drive to get rid of squat toilets See in context

I have read that sqautting is a healthier position to do #2, but if no one wants to use the squatters, then they should be replaced. I would guess that the majority of younger Japanese don't use the squatters, and maybe older Japanese can't physically use them. In a strange way, it's kind of sad that we might not see them anymore.

uhhhhh...they could ride their bikes?!

Not a problem if you live in the immediate Tokyo area, but if you live in Saitama, for example, that's a fair bit away.

Posted in: Gunman kills 59, injures 500, in Las Vegas concert attack; Trump calls it 'act of pure evil' See in context

Cue the silly debates about banning all guns in the US now.....

There shouldn't even be a debate. Just ban them already. Paddock used the guns in the exact way they were intended to be used, to kill people.

Posted in: Japanese car rentals include stickers that read: 'A foreigner is driving' See in context

Seems to me it would work the same way as the brown/green leaf stickers you see on some cars in Japan. Just letting other drivers know to show a little patience if you see someone driving slowly. Perhaps, if they didn't make this exclusively for the use of foreigners and made it available to anyone not familiar to the area or the driving circumstances, people might find this idea less offensive.

Posted in: Decades later, Yoko Ono to be credited on 'Imagine' See in context

Sorry I really dislike Ono, she sold all of John's personal things at auction and Sean had to buy them, she wouldn't give them to him.... She really is only in it for the money.

I think you mean Julian. Sean is her son, but Julian was the son from John's previous wife. The way she treated him is shameful.

Posted in: Samsung faces biggest test with Galaxy S8 launch See in context

Galaxy NOTE 7 is NOT a Galaxy 7, it does NOT compete with the iPhone, it is a phablet (somewhere between a phone and tablet)... if anything it would be competing against the ipad mini.

Unless you can make phone calls on the ipad mini, I would say that the Galaxy Note 7's main Apple competitor is the iPhone 7 Plus.

Posted in: '24: Legacy' may be even better than the original See in context

I like the original, but the plots in the last few seasons were ridiculous. The reboot that they did a couple of years ago wasn't pretty good and rekindled my interest in the series again. So far, after watching the first episode of this new series, it looks pretty good.

Posted in: What is your most memorable off-the-beaten-track experience in Japan? See in context

I missed the last bus to Aomori when I was hiking around Oirase falls. I was stranded by myself, and it was getting dark and cold. I thought I was going to have to spend the night sleeping in the "witches house". Fortunately, I saw a JR bus coming along the road. I ended up staying the night at an old ryokan in the area and woke up to an 10 cm blanket of wet snow. I learned to always check the bus schedule when off the beaten track after that experience.
