Posted in: Japan pledges support to vaccinate Tokyo Olympic athletes See in context

This is just PR fluff for the athletes to still join the olympics. Would they get persuaded, I don't know but I doubt they would comply anyway because of adverse effects that might affect their performance.

Cool. I don't think 57 is significant in any way. See you next year then.

This is the perfect timing since the feasibility studies and efficacy tests for the vaccines are showing up.

The word Tedros could not utter when it started is now the top word of the year.

How fitting.

I get that people don't like shochu, but shochu is a great neutral base for mixes. I'd call it a support liquor.

Get someone like Bill Murray to get a fad on shochu then we'll talk.

Can they meet the quota though? I see they're still struggling to have test counts for their PRC tests.

Posted in: Koike asks Tokyo restaurants serving alcohol to shorten opening hours for 3 weeks See in context

I feel bad for the struggling business owners even with their efforts like installing clear curtains and limiting the amount of people that can sit by half by putting X marks on the seats, the government goes for the neck by instilling fear to the customers with this soft curfew... Never mind the rent, for food and drink businesses, checking the number of cases per day is like checking the weather now.

"Bach just reminded me that I am on his payroll so I have to do my due diligence."

Ironically, the sole winner of this Olympics is Russia, which have been banned years prior.

I'm pretty sure she used "小" for subliminal messaging, to make her name stick to people's minds.

Subtle.

Part of me wants to see an olympics with no audience and no participants. That would be the most "I told you so" moment for the new decade.

If the virus fears have banished the audience wouldn't have to wear masks, do they? What seems to have banished for me is the excitement and hype for the events.

Regardless of COVID or not, it's getting colder now. Best to protect yourself by having adequate sleep, exercise and balanced eating habits. In the off-chance that you might be infected, having a weak immune system might complicate your recovery.

Posted in: Begin your day with these 5 simple and delicious Japanese breakfasts See in context

BackpackingNepal

Are those really healthy early morning on empty stomach? Rice (carbohydrates), Raw Egg (salmonella)?

Yes, rice should keep you energized throughout the morning. I get that some people refuse to eat raw egg - it's a matter of preference. It doesn't hurt to cook it but in Japanese breakfast the heat from the white rice slowly cooks the egg anyway. There's a reason the TKG is a staple in breakfast for centuries now.

Conversely, I want to try your breakfast style as it is fairly low GI. I'd add an espresso or doppio though.

Posted in: Do you think remote working, where possible, improves productivity, creativity and staff retention for a company? See in context

I get why majority of the people voted Yes - having the option to have freedom on where to work is almost always a good sign. But when it comes to productivity, creativity and staff retention in which the question targets to, I'd say it's on a situational basis:

Productivity: Sure you don't have to commute or wear your pants, but in my case, there's just too many distractions inside the house. I'm just an arms length away from opening my game console.

Also, if you're working with a team, there are some time- and security-related concerns that could just be avoided by going to the office.

Creativity: This depends if your remote place or your office has more resources to exploit from. For example, if your research is mostly on the web then WFH is better, but if you need something to experiment onsite, then obviously going there is better.

Staff retention: This one I don't know. Maybe it's a motivational pressure battle from burnout? Fear of employers getting you canned or having stale salaries? I would like to know other peoples' opinion on this since my mindset is not managerial.
