I thought he was a beloved political figure in Shizuoka. Couldn't be anything related to his opposition to the Mag-Leg route running through the prefecture?

If you combine the 30 percent on fixed income (nenkin) and the working poor(contract workers), that sound about right Very sad

Posted in: Ohtani says he never bet on sports; claims interpreter Mizuhara stole money, told lies See in context

Otani has a team of people working for him. This most of course includes his finances. Multiple wire transfers equating to 4.5 million would most definitely raise red flags. Excuses like him not understand the US banking system and blah blah is comical. I sincerely hope the evidence clears his name but I know exactly 700 million reasons as to why he might lie.

Posted in: Japan sees record cannabis cases in 2023; 70% among young people See in context

Japan being so uptight, would benefit from a bit of the green. The trend will only grow as more countries reassesses their stances on alcohol which is far more damaging on every level. Huge percentage of crimes worldwide including Japan, involve alcohol.

Posted in: Why is anti-Japanese sentiment remaining from the World War II era almost non-existent in Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia, unlike in China and South Korea? See in context

I would assume it's because China and Korea were the main victims of the atrocities committed by the Japanese during WW2. Comment of the day comes from someone who clearly has never read up on WW2 history.

Posted in: Kishida cabinet support rate hits fresh low at 20% See in context

Families are feeling poor and the economy is vulnerable. Kishida is clueless and was chosen for his status quo stance so there is no surprise. Clinging to it's Showa mentality while the world passes by.

This situation highlights Japan's culture of gender expectations and the inflexibility to adapt to modern times. Could be one reason fewer young people are choosing to stay single, hence declining birth rates

Posted in: Japan finance minister says may have to skip G20 meet due to domestic issues See in context

He doesn't want to be questioned about Japan's absurd monetary policy and currency interventions. US has indirectly voiced their opposition towards Japan's manipulation/ interventions through the IMF.

Posted in: Japan's exports surge nearly 12% in January in 2nd straight month of gains See in context

Imports are down as domestic consumption is down. Stagflation is eroding salaries as anyone with a yen base salary is feeling poor. In addition, Japan is importing inflation with its loss monetary policy worsening the outlook for the SME's. Record asset prices in the Nikkei, real estate and JGB market while the economy is in a technical recession is great indicator of another asset bubble. Let's hope Japan can avoid a 1990's style crash. History might not repeat itself it sure does rhyme.
