Posted in: Why is anti-Japanese sentiment remaining from the World War II era almost non-existent in Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia, unlike in China and South Korea? See in context

I would assume it's because China and Korea were the main victims of the atrocities committed by the Japanese during WW2. Comment of the day comes from someone who clearly has never read up on WW2 history.

Posted in: Kishida cabinet support rate hits fresh low at 20% See in context

Families are feeling poor and the economy is vulnerable. Kishida is clueless and was chosen for his status quo stance so there is no surprise. Clinging to it's Showa mentality while the world passes by.

Posted in: Man arrested for assaulting wife after argument over sharing household chores See in context

This situation highlights Japan's culture of gender expectations and the inflexibility to adapt to modern times. Could be one reason fewer young people are choosing to stay single, hence declining birth rates

Posted in: Half of Japanese firms see another Trump presidency as risk, poll shows See in context

East Asia has long taken advantage of America's free markets while restricting their own. Another Trump presidency is a shift from this which is why some might be uncomfortable. Sobering for some I suppose

Posted in: Japan finance minister says may have to skip G20 meet due to domestic issues See in context

He doesn't want to be questioned about Japan's absurd monetary policy and currency interventions. US has indirectly voiced their opposition towards Japan's manipulation/ interventions through the IMF.

Posted in: Japan's exports surge nearly 12% in January in 2nd straight month of gains See in context

Imports are down as domestic consumption is down. Stagflation is eroding salaries as anyone with a yen base salary is feeling poor. In addition, Japan is importing inflation with its loss monetary policy worsening the outlook for the SME's. Record asset prices in the Nikkei, real estate and JGB market while the economy is in a technical recession is great indicator of another asset bubble. Let's hope Japan can avoid a 1990's style crash. History might not repeat itself it sure does rhyme.

Posted in: Japan likely to send 1st astronaut to moon under U.S.-led project See in context

Misleading headline. More like Japan is negotiating the fee with the US to ferry a Japanese astronaut. The Japanese space exploration program is like many other Japanese industry, decades behind.

Posted in: In buying Toshiba, a little-known fund takes on Japan Inc's toughest job See in context

JIP is a government back fund and is METI's effort to keep it Japanese. Toshiba is a money losing business with a long history of financial scandals. Skeptical of a turn around

Posted in: Toyota selling part of Denso stake to raise cash to develop electric vehicles See in context

This reminds me of how Japan's consumer electronics industry lost its dominance as it was too focused on hardware whereas in the west or the US, the emphasis was more on code or software. With EV's being a computer and a battery with four wheels, I'm wondering if the Japanese auto industry is next? Keep in mind EV's use 1/3 the number of parts compared to IC. Japan's auto OEMs are in my opinion more like auto part companies rather than just auto companies.
