The "if" resolves to be negative: North Korea does not have any plan to attack. Moreover, North Korea has recently proposed to replace the armistice with a peace treaty. America and South Korea have dismissed this call. Further, not long ago South Korea organized deliberate maritime clashes near the shores of North Korea. The intentions of the South do not seem peaceful.

The natural disaster has struck, but what then? The survivors should have received adequate help from their fellow human being, but this doesn't happen. Those who seek a promotion of their image may boast performing a complicated surgical operation in one person in a special makeshift hospital, while at the same time thousands around are dying from thirst. Hundreds of thousands will die in Haiti, not because of the primary natural disaster but because of the secondary (but much larger) disaster – the lack of adequate aid which their fellow human beings must have provided to them.

The aid that is provided does not address the needs. There is a lack of systematic international plan of giving help. The loss of life and suffering will be colossal.

Posted in: N Korea plays sanctions card in nuclear standoff See in context
The sanctions against North Korea are unjustified, and should be abolished. The phrase "totalitarian regime" is a meaningless cliché. Trying to present the leaders of North Korea as cognac consumers does not help to solve any problem. The Korean peninsula should be denuclearized, as a part of a comprehensive move to put an end to all forms of hostility, including all plans to topple the socialist system in North Korea.

If we view the overall picture, we will see that the appalling human rights situation belongs to the side that makes the accusations.

This is not a competition. Having Olympic Games in Hiroshima and Nagasaki would symbolize the universal triumph of life, and the ability of the human spirit to overcome horrors and evil, wherever these may occur.

North Korea quit the disarmament talks last year in anger over international criticism of a long-range rocket launch, which was denounced as a test of its missile technology. The regime then conducted a nuclear test and test-fired a series of ballistic missiles.
The denunciation was over the launch of the satellite Kwangmyongsong-2 using the carrier rocket Unha-2.

The above statement is related to the fate of the native population in a broad way, and extends from the particular context of buying back the lands in what is now Nebraska. Since the above statement is not considered off topic, a reaction to it should likewise not be considered off topic.

Posted in: N Korea declares 'firing zone' in disputed waters See in context
Remember, there's still no treaty - the two Koreas are still technically at war [lostrune2].
Well, since there is still a technical a state of war after sixty four years, one can choose between promoting confrontation and promoting reconciliation. Lee Myung Bak has consciously opted for a strategy of re-igniting war. And he fully bears the responsibility for this strategy. The implementation of his strategy begins in these well-planned maritime encroachments, which have begun in attacking fishing boats. Lee's policy is diametrically opposed to that of the late presidents Kim Dae Jung and Roh Moo Hyun.
If there is a good will, it should be understood that North Korean fishing boats cannot be confined to a narrow strip near the coast which is imposed in a unilateral manner.

The Northern Limit Line, which passes along the shore of North Korea, was unilaterally set by America under the guise of the UN. This line is outrageously unjust. The current Lee Myung Bak American regime in South Korea, which leads an outright aggressive strategy towards the North (while at the same time leading a repressive plutocracy at home), has launched well-planned maritime clashes in the territorial waters of North Korea. The North Koreans are trying now to fend off this blatant encroachment.

Unfortunately nobody can throw nuclear weapons on North Korea because it's so small that such an attack would hit at least 10 other neighbouring countries! [sirgamble]
The comment cited above proves that the Americans are avid to commit full genocide in North Korea. Guided by the American heritage, they do not have any intrinsic hindrances. However, they are frustrated by external obstacles.

Posted in: A year on, Iran, N Korea threats worsen See in context
The origin of threat is the hegemonic superpower, which possesses a huge arsenal of nuclear and thermonuclear warheads, and invades other countries habitually. Korea has armed in an attempt to avert invasion, and its conduct is thus purely defensive. Moreover, Korea is willing and eager to implement the 2005 statement, whose essence is: Denuclearization and putting an end to hostility. They conveyed this stance to Stephen Bosworth. Hence, the rhetoric about the "North Korea Threat" is sheer blather.

The Northern Limit Line which is supposed to demarcate the area where fishing boats of the North are allowed to operate is an outrageously unjust line: It is a line that passes along the shores of North Korea, very near to the shore.
The incident was well planned in advance by the Lee Myung Bak regime. The choosing of the maritime arena for a military confrontation was not random.
In a peninsula that is one big barrel of explosives, igniting a military confrontation (after years of relative calm) is grossly irresponsible. To my humble opinion, the North should bring this issue to the UN Security Council, despite of all the hypocrisy of this body and its bias against the North.

It seems that America is reluctant to speak with North Korea. Moreover, the Korea Times reported two days ago that South Korea and America have completed plans to handle North Korea's collapse. That is, America is anticipating the collapse of North Korea, and you do not speak with someone whose collapse you are anticipating. In such a situation, North Korea is left with no choice but to retain her means of deterrence and enhance them.

“It can be said that the resolution is working to convince the DPRK that it can’t go on like this. It must return to the six-party talks,” Kazuo Kodama, press secretary to Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada, said Friday, using North Korea’s official name: the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
The talks should lead to a stable framework of co-existence and mutual security. It should be a pluralistic framework that supports cooperation between countries/states with different social/political systems.

techall, North Korea abided by the agreement reached with Bill Clinton, which the congress did not ratify. Then George Bush came, with a different policy.
Smith, you might be right when you say that true socialism can never be achieved. But the reason for this is that external powers will never let socialism have the chance. The reason is not intrinsic.
