It's corruption, plain and simple for all to see.

Everyone is different, so this form of punishment could possibly hurt some students but not others. So that is the main problem with it if you think about it.

Posted in: Japanese should take heed of Greece's woes See in context

There is still way too much optimism about Japan as evidenced on this thread and elsewhere. The fact is, Japan is in serious trouble from this point going forward for as far as the eye can see. I did not see anyone in this thread mention Japan's aging and shrinking population as they made their optimistic cases, which proves to me that the full reality and seriousness of the situation has not yet been fully recognized by most. When the day arrives where most people agree with my more pessimistic view, then I will probably become a lot more positive on Japan's future.

The only solution is debt forgiveness, nothing else will work in the fullness of time.

By the end of this century... Let us hope the world's environment can last that long waiting for human beings to become sensible.

Posted in: Bad behavior by teachers a growing problem See in context

Violence has almost always been a problem in schools. I remember well the gym teacher who would routinely throw the kids he did not like up against the hallway walls, and nothing was done about it. Or the female teacher who would crack a yardstick over a students knuckles until they started to bleed, and the teacher who would literally yank kids out of their chairs by their ears! And as far as I know, no severe punishment was ever issued to those teachers and they remained employed. By no means am I approving of this type of behavior by teachers, but I remember it very well.

Why is Japan so reluctant to invest in renewable energy? Germany, the United States and China are doing so.

Posted in: Islamic parties seek ban on alcohol consumption in Indonesia See in context

You do not have to believe me, do your own research, but alcohol has been proven to be the real "gateway" drug, so Indonesia is right if they do this, even if religion is left out of the argument. So many lives have been ruined and lost because of alcohol it's not funny anymore.

I first saw Ken in NHK's Dokuganryu Masamune in 1987, and even back then you could tell he was a great actor with a great future ahead of him. But I never thought I might be able to see him playing the king in The King and I on Broadway in New York CIty!

It is very sad to see Japan continuing down the path of revisionist history, which will certainly not gain them more respect from most of the rest of the world.

Posted in: Black box data shows co-pilot sped up German plane on descent See in context

This was far more than a simple suicide, and in my honest opinion he acted like he wanted the passengers to suffer as much as he could make them on the way to their tragic deaths. So this was more like terrorism rather than suicide, but no one wants to say that of course.

Posted in: LDP wants 20% nuclear power in energy mix See in context

Is it not thrilling that Japan has decided to go backward instead of forward? This is fantastic news! Why waste time and money on clean energy sources like the sun, wind and waves, when you can create many more tons of nuclear waste and radioactive materials that have to be properly and very carefully disposed of? Good choice Japan, I salute you for this obviously wise decision!

Posted in: Lufthansa chief visits crash area as reported cabin video emerges See in context

Of course people who have or have gone through serious depression should not fly passenger aircraft. It is just too risky. Why is that even being questioned? I admire people who are trying to become more normal mentally, but that does not mean they should fly passenger aircraft.

Posted in: U.S. senators want FIFA to move 2018 World Cup out of Russia See in context

You do not reward people and countries who bring prejudice and violence into the world, no matter which country is doing it. As for the average Russian soccer fan paying the consequences if the 2018 World Cup is moved, do not forget that the Russian people are the ones supporting Mr. Putin in very large numbers.

Posted in: Boehner invites Abe to address U.S. Congress on April 29 See in context

The current approval rating of Congress is only approximately 16%, just to give you some idea of how much they are respected in my country. In other words, the American people are totally disgusted with Congress, whether it is under control of the republicans or the democrats. So this address will not do much for Prime Minister Abe's reputation with most Americans.

Posted in: Chiba school apologizes after teacher buries kittens alive See in context

What is wrong with people who can stick up for what this guy did and then they still sleep at night? It is no joke that people who can do this to helpless kittens, can also more easily proceed to abusing human beings.

Posted in: Trial begins for man over poisoning of 40 cats in Tokyo See in context

What this guy did was no way to handle the situation, even if he believed the feral cat population was getting out of control. It was very cruel to the cats, and also cruel for the people that found them dead.

Posted in: Space scientists make wireless energy breakthrough See in context

This method of harvesting solar power is unnecessary and potentially extremely dangerous. The human race has a history of doing things just because they can, without thinking things through properly. Using nuclear power to produce electricity being the perfect example of this kind of over enthusiastic thinking.

Posted in: U.S. unions gear up to fight Obama over TPP deal See in context

President Obama seems to be tone deaf to the sounds of the marching corporate boots who want to have complete control over the people. Doing things behind closed doors is their way to ram what they want through the system without receiving any criticism and feedback.

You have to be very careful what kind of quality you are getting in these kinds of stores. I bought some "stainless steel" spoons, but they started rusting out in less than six months! So all they did was add more garbage to the landfill.
