There would be war or some countries would become "Chinese satellites" out of fear of China without a strong U.S. presence in the area.

The solution is not to pay people "slave wages" in either China or the U.S., and there were far less people "walking around in rags" in my country before the USA started to support the Chinese dictatorship, at least indirectly, when the major corporations sold American workers down the river.

There is nothing good about going without an air conditioner in brutally hot summers, no matter how much older people say it was not a problem.

Same old same old China, some things "never" change. I still have some naive friends who believe that if we just keep "throwing money" at China and keep buying their products, then their government will change for the better. Good luck waiting for that!

The problem with all this extra pollution now is that it eventually affects the climate on this planet for all of us in the fullness of time, regardless of where it is coming from or who is causing it.

Many people will die or become severely ill from this in the future. China cares too much about military power, and not enough about the health of the people.

You people that think China can keep growing the way it has been for the next 30 years make me laugh! For one thing, the Earth does not have enough resources or clean air left for another 500 million plus people to attain a high standard of living, it would literally destroy this planet! Face the fact that China is peaking (no pun intended) out as far as high sustainable growth rates are concerned.

@BertieWooster: The fact is, the Syrians were already heavily involved with killing each other well before President Obama made any decision to get involved in supplying weapons. You can't blame the USA for everything that goes wrong in the world.

Well not only is the "heartland" dying in America, the "glue that holds us together" is becoming very brittle! The next civil war is not a matter of if, but only when. The right wing extremists, mostly in the South and parts of the Midwest will make sure of that.

@YuriOtani You said: "The Americans want yet another war."

Well for your information, there already is a war going on over there and has been for a long time, the direct result of a dictator refusing to step down.

What is wrong with you people getting so emotional over using something that helps us keep cooler? Most of you so-called "macho" guys here are the real wimps, so afraid of someone making fun of you, I guess you would burst into tears just thinking about it! I would tell you to grow up, but why should I help brainwashed people out? Using parasols or umbrellas during hot sunny days is an intelligent idea, but you go right ahead and keep on worrying about how you look!

Posted in: Power-saving refrigerator See in context

You are right JapanGal! Many people stare into their refrigerator way too long, and do not have the food set up properly for easy access, so they waste a LOT of energy that way.

I am very surprised the service life is only 10,000 hours... I remember the older LED lamps of five to ten years ago had a service life of from 50,000 to 100,000 hours, so we are actually going backwards!

Gottlieb's "Kings & Queens" was my favorite way back in 1966, and I was racking up free games at the Tia Rosa restaurant in New Jersey way before it was featured in the movie "Tommy". :) No computer chips, no audio except for a few chiming and bell sounds, just flashing lights and good basic pinball action!

Posted in: Man who fought with Asashoryu involved in another Roppongi punch-up See in context

You people can give me "100 bads/thumbs down", but you obviously do not understand sumo. The yokozuna is the "face of sumo", and as such is not just expected, but required to act at a much higher level both inside and outside the dohyo. Asashoryu had already embarrassed his position before the incident with Kawana, so that was just the "final straw" as far as his chance of remaining yokozuna was concerned. Being the yokozuna is not just about having the best record and fighting spirit, it is also about having very good manners and the "proper form", no matter where they may happen to be. If you do not understand this or like this, than sumo is not the proper sport for you, and standard wrestling or boxing will probably make you happier.

I do see some similarity with the extreme right wingers in Japan, and those in the United States. Both like to hang out with their own race, both use propaganda and lies to further their own cause, and both have dreams of the "old ways" returning once again, no matter how unrealistic that may be.

Posted in: PM wants Japan to be less reliant on nuclear power See in context

There is enough solar, wind and wave energy to make up for the capacity of ALL the nuclear power plants in Japan and then some! The sooner they get working on the other sources of power the sooner nuclear power can be phased out.

Posted in: Japan can't say when nuclear reactors will restart See in context

Leaving these reactors off line would force Japan to invest much more quickly in cleaner energy sources, so while the pain would be great in the short term, the long term benefits would be even greater!

TEPCO is negligent for building these nuclear reactors without adequate tsunami protection in line with the history of the area they were built in, REGARDLESS of whether or not the government gave them permission to do so. This is not "rocket science" people, just simple facts that do not require a huge explanation or debate.
