People say Hamas does not have the firepower to cause such damage. I believe their missile failed and caused a secondary deadly explosion among munitions stored at the hospital. Hamas is known to hide munitions in hospitals so they are safe from Israeli attacks.

Everyone needs to read the first sentence. They are "minors," and they will be charged, tried and sentenced as such. There will be no "hard time."

I just couldn't get past the opening: "grabbing fast food headlines with some pretty head-turning men offerings" -- They should be attracting a pretty interesting crowdd.

Some confusion in the comments here, though that is hardly surprising as the story is poorly written, burying the lead in the fourth paragraph.

It was TV Tokyo that aired the movie NOT TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System), so the praise for TBS is mistaken.

Also, TV Tokyo airs a movie every weekday in the 13:40-15:30 time slot, so it didn't change its programming.

Yet another Covid article and no mention of the government's pathetic vaccination program. What is wrong with the media in this country?

This is just a PR stunt. The people in charge, the people making decisions are still 70- and 80-year-old men.

The media, including Japan Today, have to start pressuring the government about vaccinations instead of swallowing without question all its BS press releases.

Articles about the state of emergency, more positive tests, more financial aid, but NOTHING about a vaccination program.

The story should have said that the Imperial family will be first in line for the vaccination -- if they haven't had it already.

And yet we conveniently forget the bans on U.S. and Kenyan athletes.

Let them waste their time lining up for masks that will not even protect them from the common cold!

U.S. Embassy in Tokyo: "If U.S. citizens wish to return to the United States, they should make arrangements to do so now."  Yeah, head back to a country where 2,000 people a day are dying from the virus!

Please read Somerset Maugham's "The Appointment in Samarra." It is a cautionary tale about the futility of trying to run away from death.

And still we have this stupid emphasis on wearing masks. There is NO scientific evidence that the masks readily available to the public will protect you from the coronavirus.

What frightens me most is the media's hysteria, creating shortages and panic for the sake of ratings / sales, and the simple-minded who believe everything they read / see/ hear. I read a headline screaming about the first virus death in Thailand. Buried deep in the story was the fact that the victim also had dengue fever (remember the dengue panic in Tokyo after fever-carrying mosquitoes were found in Yoyogi Koen?) This is yellow journalism of the worst kind (that's not racist, by the way -- "Yellow journalism or the yellow press is a type of journalism that does not report much real news with facts. It uses shocking headlines that catch people's attention to sell more newspapers. Yellow journalism might include exaggerating facts or spreading rumors."

The media is so irresponsible. They report a shortage, and the stupid Japanese lemmings jump over the cliff and create one.

How many flu infections have there been this season? How many people have died because of the flu this season? Perhaps the media should offer such comparisons to provide a more accurate perspective on this virus. But that wouldn't provide such sensational headlines.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that so far this season, there have been at least 15 million flu illnesses for the 2019-2020 season, 140,000 hospitalizations and 8,200 deaths in the U.S. The CDC reports there have been 54 reported flu-related pediatric deaths this season from Influenza B viruses. Ordinary (annual flu) is much deadlier the Wuhan coronavirus. Forget all the media sensationalism.

Apparently it cost 80 million yen. You'd think the Imperial Household Agency has one or two other cars he could reuse.

Forget "abuse," "neglect," he MURDERED the girl. He should hang.

Glad to see you are not whitewashing the term "forced laborers." The Japan Times, terrified of falling out with the Abe administration, now calls them "wartime laborers."

Although his desire to report on what is happening in Syria is laudable, the story now is all about him. I'm tired of journalists who rather than report the news become the news.

Story clearly says they were in business class.

The Nihon University football "scandal" has received saturation coverage in the Japanese media, but there has been very little about the high school basketball player who hit a referee after being called for a foul. I wonder what happened to him? I asked that question in a post on this site, and my comment was deleted because it was "off track." The people who administer this site seem quite strange!

The IOC needs to step in. FIFA eventually had the sense to move the 2022 World Cup to November / December because the Qatari organizers could only offer vague promises about new technologies to combat the summer heat, pretty much like Tokyo's empty promises. The Tokyo organizers have no idea because Mori and the like spend the summer being ferried around the capital in air-conditioned limousines.
