Isn't it funny that outsiders(US, AU, JP) of South china sea think they are right and insiders (ASEAN, CN) are not? Actually ASEAN know that during 50's- 80's how bad they suffered in wars when outsiders involved around.

OssanAmericaJUL. 18, 2016 - So you consider Taiwan to be a Chinese province

Certainly Taiwan is a province of China(ROC) as per our constitution, which is supported by most of Taiwanese including ruling party DPP and opposition KMT & other small parties.

@Yoshitsune

Taiwan(ROC) doesn't recognize that "rulings" at all! Basically, arbitration means 2 or more parties all agree to compromise something so that arbitration could be done/ effective, however this time only Phillipine join the same so who care? Actually Taiwan Coast Guard has been cruising the area and several times expel Philipin fishing boats more than 100 NM outside Taiping island even on 15/ July!

Stupid, the real problem is economy! KMT kicked out of the office because of bad economy and society/ generation difference in terms of revenue... etc. KMT was like zombie facing the problem so young people can't put up with them anymore! All other problems mentioned above might be there but only minors! I'm so happy DPP and Tsai won this time however like all other Taiwanese, we'll keeping watching DPP if they could solve Taiwan's problem mentioned above! anyway if they can't do it, they might step down again and this is so called democracy!

Mao actually did thank to Japan guests, they visited Beijing in 70's, that Japan invaded China so Commie got chance to defeated war worn out KMT soldiers to take over China! When JP chief commander Yasuji Okamura was requested by Chiang to surrender, he said I can only represent Japan Army to surrender to KMT government for losing the war, but Japan Air force and Navy can't surrender to you because they were not dedeated in China! On the other hand, Yasuji Okamura refused to surrender to Commie because Commie didn't defeat them! This is real history!

sfjp330Jul. 18, 2015 - China does not possessed a credible sea-based deterrent force, it still does not have a single operational aircraft carrier.....

Everything you said might be true, however nowadays is an information era instead of mechanical era like decades ago! Once a real war occur between China and the US, the first day both sides will take down each others' satellites like GPS/ BDS and other military systems and hack each others varies internets before hot war by aircrafts/ navy vessles/ missles action... therefore before soldiers casualities, we'll find civilian airplane can't fly, ATM can't get cash, even power plants and hospitles... etc can't work! that's what I said nobody can put up with that sort of outcome! Also that's why the US don't really care China develop new fighters or missles but do care about China hackers or satellites destroying weapon or some special CN units took over control a US satellite 6 minutes.....

Posted in: China says Japan complicating regional security with new bills See in context

Don't forget that the reason Japan has article 9 in constitution is because JP surrendered to survive after WW2 and the ally demanded it to abide by the same! The US will never fight China in near future because both sides simply can't put up with that kind of loss caused by war each other. Japanese security bill of this time is only for psychological safety instead of anthing reality, nobody really think Japan will send soldiers to fight ISIS sort of thing!

OssanAmericaJul. 06, 2015 -You don't think the last 70 years, longer than Taiwan was a Japanese colony, means anything?

Still I think it's complicated 70 years, both of good things and bad things happened between Taiwan and Japan, generally it's not bad now and hopfully Taiwan doesn't want to be used as a chess between US, JP and CN! We simply want to try our best to do anything to improve all Taiwanese happiness.

I am just a native Taiwanese, my prandpa told me lots of stories of old times and even my wife's grandpa was a Taiwanese JP soldier died in Java island during WW2. Japan had been colonizing Taiwan for 50 years therefore Taiwanese feelings toward Japan is complicated and naturally many Taiwanese have Japan friends and even have part of Japanese blood mix because 50 years is not short. At the same time, Taiwanese resisting conflicts( about 10 major events and 20- 30 minor ones happened in history) against Japanese bad administration were keeping going on and those events say all however I agree we can't say everything Japan did is bad! I wish japan really repent his past mistakes instead of emphasizing sided point of view and again hurting suffered people.

@Moonraker - During 1945-1947, ROC Taiwan government escorted/ transported more than 200 thousand JP soldiers and 600 thousand JP civilian back to Japan safely, and receive 300 thousand Taiwanese JP soldiers back Taiwan from south east asia safely, also, millions of Japanese were transported back Japan from mailand china safely by KMT, for this reason, Japan government expressed deep thank to KMT. It's true many people can blame KMT for whatever reason, however not for Japanese who understood history.
