He was spotted by 2 passengers in a waiting area, who advised the police. The cops walked up to him as he remained seated and arrested him. He was hardly "captured."

The police could easily transport him by helicopter or private plane, but chose to parade him across the country on the shinkansen.

They could also say that the train and platform are restricted for security reasons rather than fighting through hundreds of screaming cameramen.

But that wouldn't make for good TV.

The only thing sadder than stories like this are some of the comments that follow.

I saw a guy outside my building trying to escape the police, and they didn't handcuff him. Even after a dozen escape attempts, they kept dancing around trying to form a circle around him. It started with one cop waiting for back-up, and ended half an hour later with 8 cops. They finally coralled him into a patrol car, uncuffed.

We, the LDP, have decided not to fire our leader. Now, kindly vote for him this fall.
