Posted in: U.N. chief urges EU to avoid 'double standards' over Gaza and Ukraine See in context

European Union leaders were urged Thursday to show the same respect for international law in Gaza as they aim to uphold in Ukraine, as hundreds of thousands of Palestinians face dire food shortages and possible famine.

The statement is so wrong on so many points I wont even start to dissect it. Fact is, the two situations can not be compared (other than that in both cases they are the result of misguided US politics).

It’s just unbelievable that people can be so stupid to say no big earthquake will happen in Tokyo despite all the signs, all the history and scientific evidence.

Nobody said no big earthquake will happen in Tokyo. Of course, at some point in time, there will. What people are pointing out is that these things can be predicted recognizable patterns. We all (including seismologists) wish it was so easy...

Actually, it does not. Japan has, but that is long time ago. Maybe you meant the US?

Posted in: EU leaders to drum up more support for Ukraine amid appeals for a new sense of urgency See in context

The EU leaders have no money for their own citizens, but apparently endless funds to give to the Zelenski government for a military campaign that he can not win. All that is achieved is endless killing of two populations whose birth rates are below replacement level. This is insanity.

The sane way to end this is a negotiated settlement. (Of course American arms manufacturers would be very unpleased with that.)

Putin can end this, when his people have had enough. Simply remove all Russian military and thugs from Ukraine.

....and let the USA put bases and rockets right at Russian throat? There is no world in which any Russian government could ever accept this, and this has nothing to do with Putin.

Remember how the US reacted when Chrushchew sent missiles to Cuba? The UKR situation is much more radical. Sevastopol as a USA harbour and the Black Sea as an American lake is unthinkable. If people seriously want to push this then yes, we will get nuclear war.

(And it is not just me who is saying that. Senior diplomats like Alastair Crooke, Andrii Telizhenko, Jack F. Matlock, and William Perry have been warning about this for a long time.)

Haaa Nemui

Let’s all remember, that while each of those Abrams tanks that has been lost had a crew that may have been lost as well, and laughing about that is just stupid because each Russian tank had a crew too. And there have been many times more Russian tanks lost. How many of their crews have perished? How many tanks were lost in the battle for Avdiivka alone? Russia’s got more manpower, but they’re losing a lot of it.

Sadly, all true. Tragic losses of life on both sides. Who is losing more I (and you) can only speculate about. Go to official Kiev sites (where Western "mainstream media" take their information from) and you get one story. Go to Russian state news and you get another. Some independent commentators (like Dreizin report) give a more balanced picture. What we should keep in mind is that this conflict stops the moment the US stops funding the UKR government and military.

Posted in: Russian border region reels from sustained Ukrainian artillery and drone strikes See in context

All that Zelenski and his Western backers achieve with these attacks is prolong the war and suffering. There is no way for any side to "win" this conflict, the only solution is a negotiated settlement. Which must include removal of Nato troops and equipment from the Ukraine and neutrality written into the UKR constitution (like Switzerland and Austria). How our deluded Western politicians imagine a "win" for the UKR here is beyond me.

Posted in: Trump says Jews who vote for Democrats 'hate Israel' and their religion See in context

Once again, Trump is correct here, although I would say "ignorance" instead of "hate". Trump had the situation in the area under control with his defunding of Hamas via the UNRA and via direct aid, and with his Abrahams accords. Biden reversed all that on day 1, opened spigot to Hamas and other radicals again, and we saw the result on October 7. The American Jews who are wedded to the Democratic party and voted for this disaster are a completely different civilization from the Jews who actually live in the area and are targets of islamist violence.

"According to Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant the risk of terrorism and online radicalization remains high both in Australia and internationally."

It is all weasel words, and designed to promote censorship. Nowhere is a clear definition of what this "risk of terrorism and radicalisation" is, and what is illegal in the real world (like target harrassment etc.) is already illegal in electronic form too.

The real threat is a 1984ish world where what we are allowed to see and say is controlled by the elites.

Posted in: Putin says Russia aims to set up a buffer zone inside Ukraine See in context

There is nothing new to that. The Russian government has consistently said no Nato weapons should be within range of the Russian border. This is reasonable and is exactly like the Monroe doctrine that the US still claims for itself. Remember how Kennedy reacted to Sovjet missiles in Cuba? And Cuba is 200 km away from the mainland.

In the event, this war stops the moment the US stops funding it.

What the media never points out is that Hamas can end this war at any time by surrendering and releasing the (still alive) hostages.

The media fundamentally demands that Israel hands victory to Hamas after finally getting them into a corner.

GBR48

Criticising Israel is not anti-Semitism. Israel is just another nation state. When we find out how many of the Palestinian dead are women and children, Israel's reputation may sink as low as that of Hamas.

Well, I wish we would find out. According to the Gaza (aka Hamas) health ministry, Israels bombs only kill little babies and cute puppies, but never ever a Hamas terrorist. Even if we take those figures at face value, it is an almost incredible skill. How in the world can the IDF avoid killing an occasional Hamas fighter, even by accident?

Plus what this Japanese student seems to be unaware of is that Hamas can end this war any time by surrendering and releasing the hostages.

Easing Immigration rules and allowing exponentially more people than at present is Japan's only answer.

It is not an answer at all, as immigration means and influx of adults, or adults with families. Not babies, So it only adds to the already large top of the population pyramid, and not to the bottom, where the problem is. I know it is PC to promote immigration, but the concept does not withstand a reality check.

Concerned Citizen

Will Japan apply the same humanitarian standard and likewise condemn Israel's brutal occupation of Palestine and ruthless slaughter of 25000+ Gazans?

You have to define what you meam by "Palestine". As far as Hamas and the PA are concerned, Palestine includes all of Israel. Is that what you mean?

As for "ruthless slaughter", it is called war, and Hamas can end it any time by surrendering and releasing the hostages. Not rocket science.

errrr... why stop funding?

Because the funds go straight to Hamas, which uses it to build tunnels and commit terrorism. Trump was correct in de-funding this, and the result of Biden´s starting the payments again we saw on October 7.
