In Japan:

At the station near to my house today, a silly man with a mic and Japanese flag spoke (shouted) for a long time about how Koreans and Chinese ruin Japanese culture.

Bonenkai is an awful tradition anyway. Many are forced to attend, and many don't enjoy.

An ojisan trait that should be banished.

The Japanese news website comments were even celebratory! They want to safely enjoy Shogatsu.

I for one as a Japanese don't feel celebratory at all.

One day the shoe may be on the other foot and we'll get no sympathy from other nations.

Bad move if you ask me. Selfish.

I think a lot of Japanese people still like to delude themselves that Japan is so much more a better place to live than China. Ditto for Americans and Europeans.

Lol! We aren't all so deluded, but I understand your point. I'm a Sapporo resident, and do like Hokkaido alot, but have, through work, had the opportunity to live outside of Japan for almost 20 years in total.

Japan isn't the worst place to live, nor is it the best. Though that's only my humble opinion. The cities I enjoyed living and working in the most have been Lisbon, Phnom Penh, Beijing, Hong Kong, Verona, and Budapest.

Tokyo has a high opinion of itself, and whilst I'm not doubting there are numerous good points about Tokyo, there are much better cities in the world.

You know why Korea and China are anti Japan? Because they've been treated like dirt by Japan for a long time.

The Europeans made a big deal of their rates compared to other countries early on, especially the UK. Wrong again Thomas.

Pardon me, but I think he/she is correct here. I don't think Europe or America boasted about vaccination at all in comparison to other nations.

For some reason, Japan does. It's a little bit embarrassing

Deny testing, deny access to hospitals, deny the truth, donate vaccines to overseas to lift image. Even the CCP is better than that

As always @tom doley, you're spot on.

Japan needs to be held accountable for its actions. Yes, my family and I are born and raised here, and it's not nice to see so much criticism of Japan, but it is definitely merited here.

You are also right about making things like testing so difficult, and then showing off about numbers. I don't speak for all of course, but not all of us believe the figures the government is reporting. I'm more inclined to believe your views, as are many others.

Feel so sorry for those who have lost loved ones. Awful.

I didn't think you'd take it so literally. It's just each day you write such a boastful statement. I don't know what your get out of it.

TOKYO - the safest metropolitan area in the world today!

Do you have any sources to back up this throwaway statement?

I prefer my metropolitan areas to have more green spaces and a low number of concrete eyesores.

Anyway, those numbers look good. Have no idea if they're actually true, but still.

Okinawa is the poorest prefecture in Japan by far. Without the US military and tourism they would be at third world levels of poverty.

I think that's a bit of an overstatement.

And I think they care more about their lives and health than Tokyo tourist yen.
