Very good news.

But I hope this does lead to anxiety and useless treatments

I have heard we all may have some kind of cancer cells just sleeping, but this will not develop into a cancer. So this could create false positive

If the marathon was a paying event, they won’t bother arguing, otherwise it would be a pain to refund tickets. Why not moving other events. It will be the same problem for many outdoor sports.

But in the first place, rather than arguing about the marathon , why not about the timing of the Olympics?

Anyway, Tokyo was chosen and the marathon must stay in Tokyo.

Assume ypur choice guys

I live in Mobara, one of the city affected. Trains stopped yesterday and could not be back. On the way back home now, trains have restarted since noon. I am not close from a river but our parking lot was under 50cm of water. My car should be fine but I am not sure yet.

The river caused floodings in the city, which I have for sure never seen before. though it was some smaller scale flooding a few years back.

One month ago, we already had a long power blackout after typhoon 15.

That’s Mother Nature.

The overreaction is ridiculous, even by Japanese standards.

I live in Chiba. 1 month ago, typhon n15 caused blackout and a lot of damages. 1 day blackout in my place, many days or weeks for others. Many people fear the same or worst this time. No overreaction. Just be prepared

@oldman_13

You are right.

But for me, there is a big difference between what we can reproduce or not.

Over 99% of the meat we eat is reproduced with the human input, the animal is not wild.

That is not the case for many fish, and also whales. And the risk is as you know the depletion of species by overfishing.

It is a different story for meat

150km on m’y bike last Saturday. It is always difficult on the first hot day. The heat was bearable but after 100k, I really felt down and my body could not cool off well. I had an extra stop for water before ending, which in a normal way I won’t do. But many roads in Kanto do not have shade, and adding the heat from the ground, ouah.....

Here in Japan, I am sure some people have pride to keep doing things even if it is hot, it is like a warrior coming back from the field, I am a bit like that on my bike, but otherwise, as it is hot anyway, if we wanna do outdoor activities and keep training, not much choice.

But for kids, I think they should stop all sports during the summer vacations, let the kids having a real time out, and that will avoid heatstroke, But the kamikaze spirit is still here

because tickets are never put all on sale in once. The JOC keeps some , adding with some later resale.

@TigersTokyoDome @Nandi

Do you know anything about road race cycling or do you do yourself some cycling ?

They shook hands afterwards as they had to, just to show a good face and apologize. But I am not sure they will smile together for their next race.

This was bad, malicious, intentional and not acceptable.

Rowe pushed first Kruijswijk and Kruijswijk’s teammate Martin revenged. Pushing and sometimes altercations do happen, but trying to viciously close the passage and make the guy falling is not part of cycling, as Martin did this time, and it should be punished. This was done accordingly.

It has nothing to do with trying to help Alaphilippe or Pinot. Reports outside France were also supportive of the decision.

At worst, if Rowe would have felt doff the bile, and it was a very close call, and been injured, it could have been a criminal issue.

Moscon was also expelled last year after trying to do some boxing. Moscon is known to be a bad guy. And the same the year before for 2 riders in the Giro.

Ask first your own citizens in city and government offices, banks, etc, to write correctly and in order the name of foreigners in Katakana.

For example, on my number card, the order is family name/first name in alphabet, but the opposite in Katakana. This is just one example. But it is also in different orders depending on the banks and this creates problem when doing some money transfers.

This is common I guess to every foreigner

Foreign medias will never change the order to please him. Has first Kono any popular support here for that change? I am sure most J-people do not care at all.

Posted in: Tokyo court orders car owner to pay NHK fee See in context

In the first place, why this women filed the suit ? Did someone from NHK saw her watching TV in her car and ask for fee? Impossible, illogical.

Thousands of people can watch TV from their cars, starting with the official cars from the government. So NHK would or should first ask the government to pay.

A few years ago, an association fighting for the benefits of users filed the broadcaster about payment for cellphones viewers. I think the suit was filed by the responsible himself of the association in order to protect users and prevent NHK to start asking for fees. I do not think the responsible was himself a target. It did result in a court order in favor of NHK. My point is that as long as NHK does not require anything, just keep quiet. No need for any preventive action.

Posted in: Consumption tax hike may be delayed depending on June data: PM aide See in context

Nippori NickToday 08:24 am JST

8% to 10% is not a big increase

Actually, it is ...25% to be exact.

How long does it take someone in Japan in a typical job to earn 25% more in wages?

The tax itself increases 25% but the price will increase by a mere 1.85%.

This 10% tax has been decided a long time ago, already been delayed, and instead of doing it in once from 5 to 10%, doing it in 2 steps, 8 then 10%.

When the Jiminto took again power from Minshuto, Abe promised not to change the plan, but he did and already delayed it. A PM must keep its promise and not change to gain votes. It is a question of trust and power. Certainly citizens approve a delay as they just see their wallet, but for me, a lack of trust toward a government. This story has been on for years, and an increase from 8 to 10% is not a big deal. It is more symbolic to reach the 2 digits than anything else.

In my country, VAT is 20%.

Posted in: Half of foreigners in Tokyo have experienced discrimination: survey See in context

@Do the hustle

In nearly 20 years here, I have never experienced any discrimination as you mention.

The only time I felt it was when in a camping ground in the middle of nowhere and nearly empty, I was asked for my ID while my Japanese wife not. I complained and the guy replied he was asked because foreigners made some noise and have trouble before.

One of my friends was telling me people do not want seat close to him in the train. Well I did not feel the same. I do not mind if they do not want to seat. Maybe, it is just the lack of space or something else, my friend was thinking too much I guess.

But never seen anyone leaving the seat in the train after I seat, never been refused in any shops, etc. If not the adult industry or any “member clubs or member shops”, no problem.

As long as we can speak a decent Japanese, no issues.

And for small issues, better to let it go and just put the blame on ignorance.

Under intense tectonic. heat and pressure, granites are transformed into gneiss. or anatectic rocks, I suppose rocks around are not from the same age formation, or if from the same age have been transformed too much so dating will be different

If rocks deposited around/over the granite are sedimentary rocks, they will be younger and possibly eroded.

The article does not mention the importance of this granite but it is possible only a small part has been well preserved.

24 hours shop is like being connected to the net. It became a norm though it did not exist such a long time ago. The new generation cannot get away without being connected, but 20 years ago mobile phone did not exist (oh it was just the start).

As for the conbinis, it became a norm to open 24 hours, but it was a time when this what not the case and people could really accommodate too. In my country, no convenient stores, and supermarkets do close quite early in my city, between 7 and 9pm. People adjust their schedule according to.

Here in Japan, it is convenient until the last train, but who goes in the middle of the night at 3am. For an urgency to get medicines maybe, or for alcohol. I used to go late just to buy alcohol, to get more drunk than what I was, but do not drink anymore.

Anyway, close the conbinis at night. Leave staff sleeping. Late opening is only useful in the busy districts of major cities.

And as for the strategy, all the 3 majors open of a lot of conbinies along roads to, to close some (quite a lot) of them a few years later if no benefits, after killing off the land/rice paddy that was there. It leaves the premise empty and most of them are not used anymore (some by dental practitioners or soft massage places).

Opening 24 hours a day makes non sense for most of the conbinis, except for a few ones in busy districts of major cities.

Back to the old days when it was closed, and people will get used to it anyway

In my city 80km from Tokyo in Chiba prefecture, I am quit sure nobody goes to the conbinis in the middle of night, except beer lovers

A beer 6 hours before should not be a problem. But adding a spirit is certainly what made him over. It is said it takes 2 hours for the alcohol from a can of beer to disappear from the body.

Alcoholism is a problem in Japan still underestimated. Had a business dinner this week at a Nomihodai place. A lot of alcohol, all of Japanese coworkers drinking Highball, I went for beers, One guy could not drink , his liver being not good recently.

An other coworker drinks every evening but does not consider as addicted

Like tobacco, health issues are underestimated

Nuclear is rather the best option for Japan.

Japan can go solar or wind, which as been the case recently.

But as I too often see here, it is also at the expense of existing forests, I have seen many exemples of trees being cut to build a solar energy plant/unit. Not used land or old rice fields should be used in priority.

As for the wind, I was ready to invest in a project but learned the windmill will be à the top of a mountain, and building a road through the forest is necessary

Nuclear is not the best but the most viable low carbon emission energy
