In all the years I've lived in major cities in Japan, I have never seen anyone swim in large rivers like this, so a rare sight. This particular river has strong currents during heavy rain, so it's probably prohibited. Most of these rivers in Nagoya are lined with factories, so probably not clean either. People do fish here sometimes, though. When I snapped the photo, the kids (maybe junior high) all waved at me and yelled "Hi!" and they sounded foreign. Filipino maybe? Very Southeast Asian friendliness. Reminded me of America. Happy people. Super cute.

Not a good idea. Has anyone done an E. coli count of that river water recently?
