The Yamaguchi District Public Prosecutors Office has decided not to indict a 75-year-old who was arrested on suspicion of murder for fatally stabbing his wife (then 72) at their home in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, in April.
Tetsuo Morita was accused of fatally stabbing his wife Yoshie in the neck with a kitchen knife and then stabbing himself between 9:45 and 9:57 a.m. at their home in Iwakuni on April 1, NTV reported. A caregiver found them and called 110.
After his arrest, prosecutors decided to have Morita undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he was mentally fit to stand trial. The evaluation ran until June 24.
Prosecutors filed a request on Tuesday to have Morita committed to an institution.
