Nope.

Chinese versions are are selling at half price as always, soon Apple and Sony will realize that their luck is running out and will start dropping prices, just look at what's happening with all other products.
Ripping off consumers is Bad Business.

You can play the same games on a smartphone with friends connected over the internet. All of the games are free too.

Japanese will have to get used to Japan's new status as a developing country where iphones cost a month's salary....

they may find some ready-to-die-for-it clients but hey...market is shrinking fast.
this is actual rip off of clients may backfire badly.

The original standalone consoles, cartridge or CD based, kept working. Nowadays they will become expensive doorstops/e-waste when they turn off the servers. Not worth it.

I remember my first Sony Playstation at 25,000 yen, which adjusted for inflation, doesn't come out anywhere near 120,000 yen.
I'm sticking with my Playstation4, which works just fine for games, YouTube, DVDs, Netflix and other online/streaming sites and other functions.

How much is a iPhone 15pro max? A Galaxy s24 ultra? More than double that price. How expensive is a good laptop or MacBook pro? People forgot the amount of hardware in consoles now and the comparable prices of other tech. Minus the screen , a PS5 pro is packing some expensive chips inside it.
Not a for regular kids anymore, but hard core adult gamers.

You mean, like South Korea? The price difference between both are literally ₩2,000 / 200円。

There really isn’t much of a difference in graphics now. And that price, plus a subscription, and trying to push us to digital purchases,(so we can’t resell our disc games) is becoming a joke. At least I could recoup some cost back if I sold my games. And it also keeps a shop open, and someone in a job. Now it feels almost like a con. A rip off! Just marketing BS. A slight upgrade cycle, that only computer tech gaming geeks love, just for the sake of a money grab. Really? I don’t care about a slight darkening of a shadow. Or a crisper blade of grass or a little super tiny pixel. I don’t notice it when I’m playing a game anymore. It’s not a huge jump like PS1 to the PS2 or PS3

free? Really? No pay wall? No currencies? extra free skins, no timer?
Nothing is completely free. And sometimes it’s the most annoying.
YouTubes free but all the ads are darn annoying pushing people to pay.

Remember when my friend willingly swapped my DVD player for a PS2.
No internet, radio or mobile phone reception in that mountainous area at the time,so playing the only game I had,Shaun Palmer Snowboarding, wearing a down jacket, skihat, under the kottatsu sipping Gluhwein, was a godsend.
Nowadays, just need phone and record player.
Times change.

Same as with smart phones. Manufacturers are putting a label pro behind the name, put an higher price and people will buy. This will happen also with the game industry.
Albert
I wonder what phone you have if you can play the same games. Also please let me know where to find.

The point isn't (just) how expensive the console is; the point is that it is a very marginal "upgrade" over the preexisting PS5 that has been retailing for $500 for years.
If this was a brand new console released this year with the latest of all tech and a brand new platform, that's still very hefty for any price, but at least it's brand new. This is essentially a mid-cycle refresh with slightly higher fidelity offerings, for additional 35% more.

120,000 yen for a console is absolutely bonkers. People in the US will be paying $699.99 for the console. Because of the exchange rate, Sony America buys the consoles from Sony Japan, and the price is effectively lower for American consumers which is a tough pill to swallow for someone who gets paid in yen.
That's like charging $1,200 for a gaming console. People in Japan DEFINITELY can't afford the new PlayStation.

The TEC sector has a problem. No real new TEC.
And the marketeers have run out of believable scams.
there is a drive that started to go back to the real world from the virtual one.
cars now have loads of features nobody wants but has no choice but to pay for. Mobile phone’s same.
Apple 16. How creative.
