@diagonalslip

Because this is Japan, even in some annual shareholder meeting in Japan, number of people that can ask question sometimes being limited on purpose. Basically many things need to be controlled.

The fallout from Johnny's just continues to pervade the Japanese entertainment industry. I guess so many people in and out saw what Johnny was able to get away with and the industry turned a blind eye to it, that they too thought they could get away with the same thing.

"Alleged" as in he "allegedly" paid her ¥90,000,000 to keep quite?

He is a perv, cancel him it's 2025 SMAP needs to be SMAPPED

Are the police looking into this? If not, why not?

Last I checked, sexual assault was a crime.

This sounds like a nice bit of gaiatsu at work.

Someone commented on the previous article that the woman accepting the money was proof that she was "happy" with the deal. This assumes of course that every crime victim is completely satisfied with their lot and has not been warned by a representative, in this case probably one also saying "if you ever want to work in television again ...." to shut up and take the money because its the best she is going to get. Any idea of it going to trial and him being appropriately punished is a pipe dream.

Just saying, but female tv viewers in Japan have the power to cancel Nakai. If they turn off their tv when he is on, his work will dry up. Insert that comment about the victory of evil being through good people doing nothing.

sakurasuki - I think diagonalslip’s question was rhetorical. As in ‘Why, after twenty-five years in Japan, had I still not learned the Japanese for ‘consequences’?’

His work "will" dry up? It already has.

Stick a fork in him, because he's done.

So now everyone just assumes that the weeklies are actually printing accurate information?

The head of Japan's Fuji Television network announced plans on Friday for an independent investigation into sexual misconduct allegations

allegations of sexual assault at a party which it is alleged was arranged by a member of staff at Fuji TV.

So Fuji TV is gonna do an "internal" investigation on an event THEY held, run by THEIR people, that led to sexual assault................

ok

let me guess, THEY'LL also lash out the punishments to all involved?

Last I checked, sexual assault was a crime.

That's because the cops can be easily bought in Japan. And because he and FUJI TV are "famous" in Japan.

“causing tremendous trouble and concern due to the (media) reports”

This tells you all you need to know about the company. The MEDIA reports are the problem, not what any member of staff has done. The fact the story has got is the problem for them, not the fact that there are ‘sexual misconduct allegations’ being investigated.

Japan does have extremely strict defamation laws. Smoke will likely mean an actual fire.

Nakai will have powerful people defending him. If its Nakai vs. some random joshi-ana, the joshi-ana won't win. She won't get to take him to the cleaners for baseless allegations.

fwiw, I expect Nakai to lie low, do a bit of hansei, and be back on our screens. If this has finished him for good like the ones caught doing side gigs for the yakuza, I won't shed a tear.

He won't be on mine. Not that I watch much Japanese TV anyway.

You could be right; he could be back.

But I'm more inclined to believe that he won't be.

The thought of him having sexually violated a woman, and having gotten away with it as far as criminal liability goes, will just turn off too many women viewers.

Not to mention the guys out there with wives, sisters, and daughters, who would never want them to experience such a traumatic thing.

The police are the ones who should be investigating this alleged rapist. His ties with pedophile and boy raper Johnny Kitagawa also need to be looked into. If guilty a very, very long custodial sentence without parole this animal.

But, so many complaints about the lengthy police investigations appear on this forum. Let's just go for it Police so that it is classed criminal, I agree. And would be happy with a guilty verdict later later later instead of this nonsense.

They are one of major media corporations so far, but they eliminated freelance journalists at nominal "press conference" yesterday to escape from tough questions, Besides banned live broadcasting or even recording video and sound despite broadcasting station.

Those were just farce among infamous Japan's "Kisha Club".

They abandoned even identity as TV station at this scandal.
