It is not just kids that are addicted to their Switches and other games, but adults as well. I think it is an unhealthy situation.

If I had to choose, I would 100% rather like my kids to be addicted to video games (especially if they're good) than to insta, tiktok or any other social network.

A kid playing Minecraft 2 hours a day and a kid doomscrolling TikTok for 2 hours a day will produce VERY different adults.

Why all the talk about addiction? For some it's entertainment, interactive entertainment, unlike the one way garbage coming out of the TV. Gotta play golf every weekend and practice during the week, gotta have my beer at happy hour everyday; gotta light? Sports gambling, and gambling in general....now we can talk about addiction.

I love gaming, but getting freaked out over something like this is pathetic.

Hopefully they are stepping outside their doors and enjoying the world IRL.

57-year-old man in Japan - "Mom! The PlayStation is still down!!!!"

Well, that brings the question again, why oh why does a mega corporation such Sony does not have a BCP or disaster recovery plan for their servers!??

After Softbank, NTT, Rakuten and Docomo, now Sony is the next in line with such kind of problems. Another proof that in Japan, nobody really wants to invest in IT, while backup solutions are seen just as budget eating.

I’m surprised users weren’t asked for their patience and cooperation

Its really weird how certain people just loathe video games. Its a harmless way of relaxing. Young people in particular use often it in a very constructive and social way. There is a really strange idea that people spend ALL of their time playing games too, which is unlkely except in a minority of cases. Would a film or a TV fan incur such hatred?

The PSN outage was relatively short term and it will have been upsetting for a number of people who were hoping to play certain games over the bitterly cold weekend. Imagine looking forward to watching the superbowl only for the TV network to be down.
