Police in Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture, have arrested a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of killing her newborn baby girl by burying her in snow.

According to police, Tsunami Sato, a temp worker, is accused of burying the infant in snow between 6:40 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on January 11, NTV reported.

A witness saw Sato and called police, saying that a woman who was not dressed appropriately for the cold weather was acting in a suspicious manner.

Police rushed to the scene and found the unconscious baby girl. She was taken to a hospital in Sendai City, but confirmed dead due to acute circulatory failure.

Sato was also taken to the hospital due to poor health, but was released on Monday, at which point she was questioned and arrested.

Police said Sato has denied intent to kill and quoted her as saying, "I definitely hid the baby in the snow, but I was in a panic and didn't think she would die.”

Police said Sato lived with her parents who were apparently unaware that she was pregnant. No information was released about who the father of the child was.

Reading news like this is enough to completely ruin your day. RIP little one. I am so sorry that this was the short life fate dealt you. RIP.

As for the monster who did this, I hope she is locked away for a very long time and has her eggs removed so she can never give birth again.

If Japanese society wholeheartedly accepted these births without making mothers feel embarrassed and unworthy then children would not be dumped in waste bins, station lockers or buried in the snow.

Don't simply blame her; it's a family matter, and a societal failure.

Once again no support available to people in this situation. There should be a phone number for parents to call and the baby is picked up and taken away no questions asked. But, more important in Japan to spend money on weapons .

Pretty diabolical. You didn't think putting a helpless newborn in the snow would kill it? C'mon. She deserves a long sentence.

Oh poor young lady, scaried for life perplexed by fear.

Wasn't afraid to have sex or terminate a helpless infant's life though. You're feeling sorry for the (alleged) perp but not the completely innocent victim? Something's wrong with this picture.
