Police in Hokuto City, Hokkaido, have arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting a female bar employee by biting her middle finger and punching her in the cheek.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, TBS reported. Police responded to a 110 call and arrested the man.

According to police, the man had been drinking alone at the bar for several hours.

Police said he refused to take a breathalyzer test, even though he was extremely drunk. He was quoted as saying, “What’s going on? Why are the police here?"

The employee suffered a minor injury to her finger.

Sounds like a mentalist who became dark because of the effects of alcohol, seen it happen myself numerous times. A terribly sad and pathetic affair.

Terrible behavior. Another example of the effects of alcohol.

How the heck did her finger end up in his mouth to begin with and why no staff came to her immediate assistance? At first grab something should have been done. But I see old guys grabbing staff all the time in the bars. They seem to let it go here.

She’s probably the one one working

Agreed. As soon as that nonsense began, some additional staff should have bundled that drunken lout up and chucked him out the door.

The employee will be eligible for some compensation.

Did you mean "only one"? (an edit function sure would be welcome)

If so, it's a pretty strong possibility.

When I read about cases like this my comments about the "customer is not always right movement gaining traction" being bogus are proven correct. Nobody is doing anything but talking about it. This guy was drinking for hours alone at the bar? Why didn't they cut him off before he committed this act? It's like when I see drunks buying MORE alcohol at convenience stores, even falling-on-the-floor drunk, and clerks not turning them down. Why? "because they are the customer".

And yes, other staff should have quickly jumped up and helped.

So, now that this guy has committed a violent act, will he finally be cut off at that bar?

No details and no reason this is 'national' news. This isn't a news site for a tight local community.

Where I live, he'd have been arrested in the hospital later, where the other bar patrons would have sent him.
