I've never seen a paper straw that was acceptable. Maybe if it were so heavily coated in wax that it is effectively a plastic straw.

such an important issue - the straw crisis.

Kids are being gunned down at school and inflation is raising the prices of basic necessities to absurd levels, and yet, this is what the clown in the suit decides to focus on. How very presidential of him...not.

Regarding paper straws - I have no issue with them. The ones at Maccas for example are hard like cardboard and hold up well in the drinks.

Plastic. That's what I grew up with. That's what I like.

I drink straight from the bottle...guzzle it down like a real man !

Using paper straws with plastic lid, what's the point ? I have the perfect ceramic mug that fits starbucks' large coffee, I always bring my mug.

No straws at all. A small sacrifice or inconvenience.

paper straws do not work but pasta straws do.

I cannot remember the last time I used any straws.

If you had been in hospital in the US, straws would have been mandatory.

Which do you prefer:

I prefer he worry about more important things, no one cares about the straws in 2025.

Why is it even on the docket? Why not just get rid of all the straws? People don't know how to drink without one?

Some people can't drink without one I am sure.

The sick, infirmed, and disabled, yes.

I'm sure some can't but how many? The vast majority of people don't need this waste of resources. Why is it so difficult for the average person to drink without a straw? I'm refused them in cafes before and I'll continue to.

That's a fair number of people who have to/want to use them. I don't use them at home either but without a coffee cup style lid, they are nice to have when ice is involved.

Also worth noting that plastic is essential in medicine. The advantages the material offers in sterilization will not be abandoned just to keep some hippies satisfied.

Plastic

Well I was sure the straw distraction was completely unsuccessful in trying to distract the media from the actual issues from the Trump-Elon copresidency, (the Gulf of Mexico was a more successful one). It seem it had some small amount of success after all.

My 1-year-old grandson uses a plastic straw to drink. It's part of the cup, so not replaced every time he uses it, but it's much better than it would be if we had to try to get him to drink without spilling all over everything. Straws are important and plastic is the only real answer.

Yep. The world is on the brink of something horrible. ‘Murica is facing austerity and social collapse. And Nero throws out things like ‘paper straws are out, plastic is back in’ purely as a distraction from the gutting of government services.

It is only your personal opinion that this matter was an attempt to distract the media. This is just a baseless claim in attempt to criticize a leader that you do not understand.

Plastic straws are environmentally unjustifiable, and paper straws are lame. Cellulose straws are a good compromise, but most people don't need a straw anyway.

I have used paper straws and they are better than plastic, the larger ones for boba drinks.

I prefer metal straws.

Well, that's your personal opinion, not everyone has a big mouth to take down big gulps, and not everyone can do that, some people can only use straws because they might have a medical condition and most women prefer them especially when they wear lipstick, also, you can control your drink intake better, there are many reasons why we need straws as a whole, now if you want to argue the material they are made of and what would be environmentally better, that is debatable, but to say, we don't need straws at all is just ludicrous.

I said "most people", not "we don't need straws at all".

Again, why are you so surprised that people comment their opinions? Is it so bad that people can comment things you don't like that you feel the need to control it?

Who and what uses straws LOL. A= USAmericans need plastic straws. How soft. This must be one of reason why they can never get it together on the battle field. Wait there is paper straw in my field ration. I can't use that, it's not made in the USA and it's not Trump approved.

Again, that's you're personal opinion because, in the end, they will keep making it, so if you want to make a difference and ban them by taking people's choices away, I suggest you get into politics and make a difference, until then, plastic it is.

I have no idea what any of that was supposed to mean, but I'll laugh anyway.

I never said that I was.

People can say whatever they want, I don't care, you should be allowed to say whatever it is you want, this is why I like X, zero filter, the way it should be.

even freedom of speech has its limits.

even freedom of speech has its limits.

Which has nothing to do in any capacity involving plastic straws.

Are you having a stroke?

I know you don’t read the articles but would hope you at least read your own comments.

Staws were once made of............. straw. I have an Edo period 'straw' drinking tube made of a section of thin bamboo. Both made by Nature.

I have no real problem with paper straws.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Neither.

I am an adult.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I never said that I was.

Then why are you replying to a comment referring to what other people say?

Is it so bad that people can comment things you don't like that you feel the need to control it?

Which again did not refer to what you wrote but what other account did. What is the point on explaining what other accounts comment as if you did it yourself?

I mean, if your point is that you never said something people are responding to, it should be a huge hint the response is directed to what other people are saying, or at least to another account.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Common Sense, paper straws just don't work, just like 'environmental' showers, sinks, toilets & other appliances, where one must spend excessive amounts of time to use same necessary amount of water anyway.
