Japan has experienced its warmest autumn since records began 126 years ago, the weather agency said, delaying the country's popular displays of seasonal foliage into December.
"This year was 1.97 degrees Celsius higher than usual... making it the hottest autumn since 1898, when statistics began," the Japan Meteorological Agency said on its website.
Between September and November, the temperature was 2.4 degrees Celsius higher than usual in Tokyo, 2.9 more in the central city of Nagoya, and 1.2 warmer in Sapporo in Hokkaido.
The weather has delayed the country's autumn foliage season -- when tourists flock to see leaves turn vibrant reds and yellows.
In Kyoto, a railway company known for running trains through forests of illuminated maple trees at night has extended its schedule because leaf colors are not changing as quickly as usual.
According to the Japan Meteorological Corporation, the best time to see the autumn leaves in Tokyo is around December 5 and in Osaka on December 9, both later than usual.
Japan recorded its joint-hottest summer on record this year as extreme heatwaves, which scientists say are fueled by climate change, engulfed many parts of the world.
The famous snowcap of Mount Fuji was absent for the longest recorded period this year, not appearing until early November, compared with the average of early October.

Mt. Fuji has a snowcap now. I'm not sure why people don't understand. Rainy season has a variable start date. Some years it rains more. Some years less. Some years it extends longer than others. Snow also comes or not variably year by year. Korea just had a once in a century heavy snowfall. The opening dates of ski resorts differ yearly. It's been like that forever. Further, fall doesn't end until December 21, the day of the winter solstice. It may be a tad early to call fall over.

I'll take it, lovely outside!

Meanwhile the US is buried in record early snow and freezing temps, clearly global warming is the cause!

That’s interesting because Australia just experienced its warmest spring on record by the same margin. It doesn’t really mean anything considering accurate climate records have only been kept for a little over 100 years. Don’t start planning your move to Mars just yet.

Spring and autumn are arguably Japan's nicest seasons. They are the easiest time of the year to get work done outside. They are both short, and appear as steep ramps in temperature. I do not want them to be shorter with steeper ramps. In years like this, it feels like I've just put away my summer clothes and now I need to get out my winter ones.
This graph is just for Tokyo vs. London, but if you live in a colder part of Japan, the changes in temp are even steeper. Much colder in winter and much hotter in summer, with rapid transitions in between.

You mean there was an Autumn?

You mean there was an Autumn?
I think it happened yesterday.

In Hyogo it's warm-cold. Today was warm. Didn't turn the heat on. Good with me.

Autumn doesn't finish until December 21.

Hottest on record will be a common thing from now on. Perhaps apart from a year here and there that will be the second hottest on record, its going to keep going up.

Wish it was longer. It’s just to cold here now.

A useful graph for perspective:

I really doubt if anyone really cares, some even say it's a hoax.
Factories are full steam ahead burning their industrial waste and trash trash as soon as the sun goes down and at night, people are burning their trash in the fields including Tires, PVC tub, plastic sheeting used in farms, many are leaving their car engines on and running while shopping in super markets and convini. stores, , diesel engines are still alive and thriving in Japan, and the list goes on and on.
I have yet to notice schools or businesses educating the public about global warming and it's affect and when they do it's only done to sell a product $$$$ so sad but true.

Had my windows open in Hyogo for the last two days and I'm at about 2,000 feet. Lovely weather. We used to get snowed in years ago. Rarely get anything these days.

japan has 6 seasons.
one month of allergy season.
one month of rainy season.
one month of jungle heat.
one month of wonderful autumn.
one month of cold.
seven months of road repair.

Just look at a trend of annual land and sea surface temperatures over the last 100 years... What do you see? Or don't look, and put your head back in the sand.

Japan does not have four seasons anymore, at least not the majority of it (Hokkaido still does, for now). Some people get truly offended when you say that, but it's 100% true. There is summer and winter, and nothing in between.

Winter hasn't really gotten started here in Sapporo. A year ago we'd already had quite a bit of snow. It's snowed a couple times, but has almost all melted off. It's nice...but kind of alarming, too. This Summer and Autumn weren't cheap on the power bill, even with just my little window AC (and even up here in relatively cool Hokkaido).

We stopped calling it Global warming so the silly people can keep up with "CLIMATE CHANGE". Nothing worse than a silly American saying...."BUT IT'S SNOWING" outside my window. Well, the truth is the climate isn't outside your window. The weather is! I guess it is really hard to get people to look beyond their borders. I'll defer to Mark Twain's reasoning and logic.
Ah_so
Whenever the evidence further mounts that climate change (man-made or not) is occurring at apparently a higher rate than in known history, there is always a lot of whataboutery - it was warmer/colder back in the day...but it snowed last week in such and such...they said there was going to be an ice age back in the 1970s etc etc.
Rather than facing the reality - the climate is changing in a way that climate scientists have been predicting for decades (since before the 1970s), but people would rather find any reason not to accept the scientific consensus and the evidence.
Ah_so
And the annoying thing is, the world keeps getting warmer and warmer - almost every year is a new record for heat. But climate change is appropriate, because it affects other parts of the climate e.g. increased frequency of hurricanes / typhoons, more flooding etc, and not just hotter summers.

totally! The extreme heat sucks up all that water/sea/ lakes/rivers into the atmosphere and then when the earth tilts to change the season, to winter, the atmosphere can’t hold it and has to dump it back down in flooding, extreme blizzards, or in summer returned as typhoons, hurricanes and storms. I think the hard thing is going to be for farmers to decide what to plant, what can they grow, and also can the wether the storm,(no pun intended) of any future farming changes. I think there are contrarian people who just want to be argumentative because they can’t be bothered or lazy. Or basically don’t give two hoots. It’s a shame as it’s a failure of our education system and our political system. But I guess they’ll take the government money, when they need it but at the same time complain when others require that very same help!
some good news, our science found the ozone hole and we are fixing it. Acid rain destroyed our forests and we fixed that. We discovered mercury in our food and we banned it and we can change things but there is a lag between what we do now ,and when we will see the results. Just not in our lifetime!

Was lovely yesterday, we went on bike for the day and had a marvellous time. It’s great after the heat of the summer isn’t it.
