Police in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, have arrested a 23-year-old university student on suspicion of violating the Animal Welfare Act by killing a cat and dumping it in a park.
Police said Akimasa Sato is accused of killing the cat at his home between 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. on Oct 15, by cutting off its four legs, Sankei Shimbun reported. He then dumped the cat in Matsuyama General Park. Park visitors discovered the body and reported it.
Police said Sato has also been arrested for killing another cat and abandoning it on the street on Oct 30.
The mutilated bodies of several stray cats have been found in the park since August, police said, adding that Sato has made statements hinting at his involvement in those incidents.

I can think of at least one fitting punishment for Mr Sato. Before leaving him in the park.

Mr Sato is a psychopath, likely to escalate to killing humans. It’s good that he has been caught.

What was he studying at university?

There's said to be a causal link between animal cruelty and doing heinous things to people. I assume that once he Expresses Remorse and Reflects Deeply, he'll be out and about doing it again. Japan doesn't give a toss about animal welfare anyway.

Hopefully not international diplomacy or medicine...

Takes a certain type of evil. As an avid cat lover ( obsessed) I can understand the sentiments of wanting people put to death. Hung, drawn and quartered. What an absolute monster. 23 year old lost boy with no soul.

Cruelty to living things is a sign of severe mental illness. Hard to imagine he can be salvaged.
Garthgoyle
How many years in jail would he be facing for his sick act?

Agree, but if we take that to the letter, a significant portion of the world is mentally ill. We're as bad to each other as we are to the other animals.

What about 5 years in jail for this monster and all money earned there going to association protecting animals.

This is not what I wanted to read this morning. How sad! At least, I'm trying to do my part in taking in stray cats and finding them good homes. I will keep doing my best.
Fighto!
A sick psychopath who needs to be put on permanent police watch. A few years locked up wouldnt hurt either. Animal torturers/killers have a very high rate of transferring that crime to humans - usually children and women.
Hopefully, this arrest will prevent him from ever holding a job.

This really is news because the police actually took some action. That is something they rarely do in cases of animal cruelty. They prefer to ignore it and will do so in nearly all cases.

Is that’s sick. And clearly needs to see a psychiatrist.
Zaphod
That is another murderous psychopath in the making. Question of time before he escalates to humans.

Yeah, I wish I could disagree. But I can't.

I hate animal cruelty as much as the next guy, but it is kind of odd to read these outraged comments from people who are in favour of Russia crushing Ukraine and killing as many Ukrainians as possible. Ditto the middle east mess. Y'all down with people killing other people, but animals are off lmits?

the most murderous species infesting the planet - homo sapiens.

How cruel and inhumane. He deserves some cruel and inhumane punishment of his own. Hope he gets it sooner than later.

Reminds me of a documentary called "dont f* with cats". This dude is a psycopath

The guy need some serious psychological help. Where are his parents? They have a responsiblity to get him the required treatment.

As someone who works with animal rescue, actually cat rescue, I can assure you that the police are generally useless even when they are reminded of the incident of the Kobe cat killer who went on to kill a kid.
I ask the local police to question a suspected cat killer. They refused because asking him questions would invade his privacy. They require evidence. They told me threats and complaints are not evidence. They offered to queston him if I can provide them with evidence. I asked what evidence they needed, and the police said a video of him killing a cat.
My previous comment on this got lots of downvotes. I think that is because most people don't understand just how useless the Japanese police are when it comes animal welfare. The only thing the police did after I requested they questioned the suspect was remove a poster that was on display warning of the penalties for animal abuse. When I asked if it had been removed because a gaijin had requested action, they denied it.

About the worst thing he could do. He was probably seeing a psychiatrist anyway. Many of the serial killers and weird murders have had or are in the middle of psych treatment.
Coulda been
What's good for the cat is good for.......
